Pulling a 33rl
Does anyone own a 33rl? If we buy it Friday it will be six feet longer then my Jayco we have now. It looks like it's 60 feet longer so I'm a little apprehensive. How well does it tow? I have a 2014 Silverado that's rated at 7600 pounds so I will be just under the rating but we don't travel far. Next year I'll trade the truck for a heavier duty one.

I looked at the 33RL they all weigh in at over 8000 dry. Sorry to say that is to much trailer for your truck.

Extended cab 4x4. The small V8 and on my sticker it says the towing capacity (rear end, motor) is 7600 pounds. The thing is we only go to one place to camp. A NY State primitive campsite on a lake that is secluded and beautiful. It is only eleven miles away. I don't ever intend to tow interstate or long mileage.

If you only go that far ,you should be fine.Won't hurt the truck , but make sure the trailer brakes work good .
Don't tell me but I bet the dealer said your truck is perfect for towing that trailer...lol

Harley, Haha how did you know?? I have a question..
What do you think an average guy adds to the campers weight when camping? Me, one wife (125pounds), food, wine ect..
Should I figure on 500 extra to the 8,000 pounds or more then that?

The average weight added to the dry weight is close to 1200-1500lbs

Also add the weight for your water. Water weighs about 8.25 pounds per gallon (actually 8.345). Depending on the size of your fresh water tank it adds up pretty quickly.

I agree with Jason's figures. I know we carry a lot of stuff/extra weight.
It's never just as simple as wife, you and some food. There is usually a lot of other stuff.
Plus don't forget to add everything you throw in the back of your truck.

Safety is the top issue you will have. But you may experience tire blowouts, transmission issues, gear issues in your differentials, all the way up to head/head gaskets issues with the extra strain on your engine.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was looking at my specks all wrong. With my 5.3L engine and 3.42 gear ratio Chevy says I can pull 9600 pounds!!
New camper here come (Happy dance)!!

I bought a ST32RL and carefully towed it in flat areas unloaded with my F150 very close to the GCVWR and GVRW. I had both trailer and truck weighed at commercial scales. I had an aftermarket transmission temperature gauge to monitor that, high winds impacted things sometimes significantly. Bottom line was I went for a year that way until I was ready for a Gas F250. Things are much nicer not having to always having to be careful about loads and temperatures and worrying about what happens if I tried to go to a campground further away. You can tow near the limits, but realize that sooner or later you'll be looking for something with a better margin.

I have a 2016 33rl and it tows just fine. It is a large TT but I have a Chevy 3500 to tow with. My last trip was in February from NJ to Atlanta and back (Nascar fan). I love the size of it. Comfort is great!!!

Looks like its geared (3.42) for gas mileage, not towing. You have to look at the 1/2 tons closely because of that.
