BAL wheel chucks

Good morning all,

Has anyone used BAL X chucks that go between the wheels?

I'm trading my park model for a 5th wheel and for at least the next year or two going to leave it on my seasonal site. I want to avoid the typical stabilization of many cinder blocks to reduce movement.

My plan is to have the landing gear up on cinder blocks so they have minimum extension. Place cinder blocks under the rear stabilizer jacks so they have minimum extension and maybe a set of blocks in the center which I will remove in the winter. Living in NH I don't want to chance damage from frost heaves.

I am also considering BAL X chucks. Has anyone used these and do you know if they would have long term effects on the tires if left in place for the summer?

I just bought a pair and used them last weekend. I installed them after I leveled the rig and had it right where I wanted it. I was impressed at how much these chocks stabilized the trailer. They reduced almost all of the rocking and sway. My wife has a lot of nervous energy and she taps her foot all the time. Her foot tapping made the whole trailer rock without these chocks.

As for keeping them on all summer though, I would be tempted to take them off and reposition them every few weeks. Are you going to be covering your tires? That will help.

Yes, I plan to cover the tires. I've sent an email to BAL to ask them as well. I'm guessing it can't be any worse than the RV sitting on the same spot on the tires for a couple years.

If you're staying put that long you will probably need to replace the tires before hitting the road anyway, covered or not.

BALs are a great addition to stabilizing your RV. Insert the X Chocks between the tires after all of the leveling, blocks, and other devices are installed.

As for leaving them in place for an entire summer, you should have no issues with that.

Use tire covers if you can. If you have the wide stance chassis, get individual wheels covers and the Extended X Chocks. Install the Extended X Chocks after you install the individual wheel covers.

If you have a standard chassis, you can use the regular X Chocks and the double tire cover. Install the regular X Chocks then install the double wheel covers.

I was thinking the same thing. Keep forgetting to look, but I think it has China bombs on it anyway. I would want to change those out before going anywhere.

I don't think I have the wide axles, I have to look. I have individual wheel covers from my current unit.

I put the X-Chocks on the Cruiser, I think they definitely make a difference. I also bought the BAL lock arm stabilizer arms which I hope to install this weekend.

It's a shame that the RotoChok folks are no longer around. I loved those chocks, but the couple who owned the business both passed away and their surviving kids shuttered the business. Their chocks worked great and the design was the most elegant I've seen. It's too bad they're gone.

Funny! Yes they are the best. I'm on my second pair in 18 years. As a matter of fact the UPS man just delivered my new set an hour ago. The only reason I had to get a second pair was because I gave my old pair away to a friend when I purchased my new 5er on the 9th. I wouldn't use anything else.
