I fiqure it doesn't pivot because it's over the slide. With it touching the slide top all the way across now; there's no way it could pivot at all. My 5er is level and I'm not sure if it could be raised at this point. There's room at the rear but at the front of the camper there's not much room between the top of the arm and the top of the roof.

Does it act differently when the slide is in, can it be articulated differently? I am surprised the same company has the two different models...

You can pull down on the arm when it's extended but it just springs back up straight. And it can't be pushed up. I see yours over the slide and I'm not sure why mine doesn't have the extra pivot point.

That's a good question Papa-T! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Steve If you get a chance. I'd like to see a picture of your awning arm at the bottom when it's completely closed. Wondering if the pivot arm extends below the fat part of the main arm prof its hidden inside. Thanks Ted

Thanks Steve. That's what I wanted to see. Looks the same as mine when closed.

Did they forget a small arm on each side, which would allow that joint to pivot?
Be nice to see a similar set up from someone else with that camper.

Yes it would be nice to see that. According to the sticker it's suppose to pivot with easy one hand pull. I thought that because I have a slide under the awning that they left it off. But Steve's picture above has a pivot arm on his even though its not the same model.

What is the length of Steve's pivot arm vs. yours w/o the pivot? If both are the same length, then the awning design was changed, but the label was not removed. Seems like with the slide out, a pivot function that lowers the awning is not practical anyway and maybe the reason for the change.

If yours is shorter, then that is a different problem.

It is also possible that the design was changed and rather than have the adjustment in the middle of the arm like Steve's, it is adjustable at the outer end of the the arm by pulling down. I notice that the labels are different also.

I can pull mine down where the small arm meets the big arm but it just springs back up if I let go. You can't push it up .

I can measure my pivot arms when the wind calms down. I just got set up in Alamosa Co, and the wind is fierce. I may be here an extra day.

Ted, I had my awning partially out at my site yesterday because of an obstruction. Anyway, I pulled down down on the arm, and it sprung back up. The strut on the main arm pushed it back up. This doesn't happen when it is fully extended.

The arm attached to the trailer is 18" to pivot point. The arm from that pivot point to main arm is 13". My slide on that side extends 23 inches. I included that because of engineering possibilities.

A cheap pool noodle over the slide edge should help keep the awnign safe till this is figured out.

Funny that I just went to Lowes Hardware yesterday and was walking past the large black pipe insulation noodles and a bell went off in my head. I got one if the 1" hole noodles and put on the top of the slide and it keeps the awning off the slide for now. If I just don't forget and bring the slide in with it on top. But I guess it really wouldn't hurt anything. Here's a pic of my fancy noodle awning protector.

Just went and measures the small arm from where it's attached to the trailer to where it's attached to the big awning arm.

Mine measures 25". And the mystery goes on.

Update: Dealer called me back today and informed me that Crossroads got back to him after looking at my pictures and said that the factory had installed the wrong arms on my 5er. Since I'm six hours away from the dealer where I purchased the 5er here's their solution. They are going to ship me the correct arms and pay to have them installed at any dealer I choose. Then I will ship them back the old arms with a prepaid fedX shipping label. Seems the arms that were suppose to be installed on my 5er has adjustments to raise arms to keep awning off the slide.
