Propane use while traveling

Hello all,
We’re planning a trip to Colorado and the Badlands for next month. Is it okay to have your refrigerator on and cooling by the propane while on the road? Does it use much propane? Thanks

You will get different opinions on this. We use ours and have in every trailer we have had. The only problem we have had was years ago when going thru Kansas with a very strong side wind it would blow out. The newer ones burners are built different so this don't happen. The burner does not use very much gas so that is not a problem.

Been using it turned on for the past 33 years. Shut off for tunnels.

We also use our's turned on while we travel...Would also agree with Mark about turning it off for traveling through a tunnel...Some tunnels don't allow any propane what so ever in the tunnel...

We have had three different travel trailers over the past 30 years and have never had an issue traveling with the propane on to the fridge.

Always on when driving..shut off when taking a ferry , but have never shut off in a tunnel...and dont think anyone would stop and turn off before a tunnel. Even the tunnel between Windsor and Detriot have never seen anyone shutting off plus there is no room to stop and do it on either side.
If there was a problem and a hose did rupture , the valve on the tank will automatically shut down.

Chesapeake Bay tunnel stops you for the toll, and then makes you pull over to shut your gas off.

Shutting off when refueling is also a good idea.

Set your fridge to "auto" if equipped & your done. This is exactly what they were designed to do. It will automatically switch between gas /electric when connected/disconnected to shore power.
We've been doing this for 40 years & as mentioned some of the older ones would blow out in extreme winds, but most have worked flawlessly.
The biggest propane hog in your rv is the furnace. You can supplement heating with electric heaters, being careful where you place them, but if in extremely cold weather most rv furnaces have ducting to water lines underneath that will only be warmed by the furnace.
