Just wanted to post real quick to update everyone on what we're doing with recent updates and spam postings.

As many of you have noticed, spammers are still able to get through the registration process and post. Just last week, there was one spammer who got 175 posts in before we were able to respond. We apologize for these incidents and are actively working to try and prevent this, but so far, all of the spam prevention features we have tried in the forum software have been ineffective.

We do have a couple more options which we have been working on, but have not yet implemented. Without going into too much detail at this time, we do want to let everyone know that we will be creating a Moderator group to try and get a team of dedicated, active members together who can help us.

We are still trying to respond daily to spam reports - removing the offending posts, and suspending the user, preventing them from logging back in or continuing to post. Please continue to report any posts you see, and we will continue to delete and block them while we work on implementing the rest of our plans.

Also, if you are interested in helping out in some fashion - whether you would like to be part of the Moderator team or just have some thoughts or ideas, please let us know.

Thanks

Thanks for the update and for letting us know that you are working on the problem. I would be interested in being part of the Moderator team.

I don't how this works, but it seems to me, if you requireda name, a address,a e-mail address before you granted them access to the forum you would stop a lot of it. You might get a fake name and add, but the e-mall has to be good so you can check it out. I think at one time we had towait two or three days before we could even post on the forum. We have a lot ofinvisable members.

Since most everyone who posts owns a Crossroads trailer, would it be possible and make sense to require some sort of VIN number ID before you could post that would be authenticated so that e-mail, name and VIN would all have to agree before the system would allow a post? Would that help solve the problem, or at least reduce it?

Given that some folks who are thinking about buying a Crossroads RV also post, a couple of the forums (such as 'Want to buy a Crossroads RV?') could be left wide open so those folks would have a place to post. It might mean occasionally having to wade through spam in those few forums, but it would be better than having it shotgunned all over the site.

I echo George's words, and would like to add, I thing George would be an excellent addition to the moderator team. There aren't
to many people out there that are more level headed then him.

I do hope you go thru with this idea. I know CR was offered moderator help once before in the same capacity, and turned it down. Hopefully it will work this time.

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick update on this. I have been following this thread to see who's interested, and so far, things are looking good. I don't know a date yet, but I am doing some testing in the background on all the various Moderator functions so that I know when this gets rolled out, it's ready. I'll continue to do my best to keep you all posted on progress.

Thanks to those who have responded, either here or via PM. It's great to see people interested in helping out.

Thanks

How about getting rid of the spam. It is really getting annoying having to wade through new spam everyday!

Hi. We are moving forward on the Spam issue that is great. George would be a good choice. There are many great contributors. Lloyd ,Keith , if you want it. Just remember power corrupts. Just kidding I think it is a good idea to involve members who obviously are interested, ,knowledgeable,
and dedicated to sharing useful input andmaintainingaconcernedand useful decorum. Glad to see CR is back as a concerned partner in the Forums.
Go Well Al

This is silly all of this spam....You need to go back to the system where you can post or become a member for three days after you sign up. Somewhere out there there is some one that can supply you with spam filters...This is the only forum I am member of that is having this much trouble

What happened to waiting for an administrator to approve your account before posting. The waiting to be able to post might help cut down some spam.

What ever happened to bplunkett, he was suppose to be taking care of the spam. What ever happened to ole Tom. Crossroads seems to have forgotten us again. Doesn't make much sense to me not to be more active with some of the most loyal and vocal customers you could have.
