Newbie looking for advice!

I have been researching for over a year and have decided my first TT will be a CR Sunset Trail. We like the ST290QB & the ST300BH but I also like the 5ers CR makes. I know my RAM 1500 V8 can tow the 290QB & 300BH trailers but I was also wondering if CR makes a 5er that my RAM can also tow.
This will be our very first TT, so we are really excited & already making plans for 2016 trips!

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing you will have to find out before going any further is---How much is your truck rated to pull, then how much is it rated to haul. After you have those answers you will be in a better position to answer your questions regarding a 5th wheel, or a tt.

My F150 tows the 300BH, no issues

I know my owners manual says the tow capacity is 10,300 but I do not want to pull anything more than 8,500 lbs (this includes all passengers, luggage, tanks, weight distribution hitch, etc.). I just could not find any 5ers GVWR that lite. We really like the 290QB & the 300BH because of the bunks for our kids so not too worried....just curious if CR made any 5ers that light. Thanks for the advice!

It's not the gvw of the 5ver that will get you, but your payload capacity verses the pin weight. With a 1500 series truck you can quickly hit your payload or your rear axle weight limits. Like Lloyd said you need to know your payload capacity. Then subtract pin weight, passengers and all your gear. If you can stay within that number, pulling a 10,000lb 5th wheel is easy and will pull better than an 8000lb travel trailer.

We have the ST290BH and love it, tons of rooms and only a few small issues, we have only had it since July and have done 6 trips.

Sorry I haven't seen many configurations a 1500 5er, but know a couple made specifically for the F150 ecoboost, doesn't help you.

We have a 2013 sunset trail sf26rb and I believe the total weight is +/- 8500 lbs with a pin that is only 1450 or so lbs. We towed it with a 2003 2500 ram diesel with no real problems, We now have a 2015 ram 3500 diesel but are looking at a bigger 5th. You should be ok as long as your pin is within your payload....may just be a little under powered but pulling a 5th is soooo much easier than a trailer. When camping with the family there is no race just fun.
