Put a new roof on our rig last week (250 RB). It seems that the rubber roofs are not tough enough when you run under a low branch on a tree. So, we now have an EPDM roof with new vents and a new antenna that got taken out by the branch as well.
What I didn’t realize is what’s under that rubber roof. Manufacturer says DO NOT WALK ON YOUR ROOF. I now know why. There is no plywood like one would think. It’s luann. 1/8” thick! The roof “supports” are 48” apart. They are thin wooden bows that the luann rests on for support. To hold this “wood” in place was one strip of masking tape spanning each joint.
Fortunately, there was no water or dry rot damage. It is now held with Zip tape which is now the strongest part of the roof system. The new rubber is on. Every single solitary screw was removed and replaced with new ones, and then caulked to ensure no leaks.
This has been quite a learning experience. I’ve fixed the cheap plastic valves, replacing with ball valves, metal faucets, etc. But this has been an eye opener. We are looking at new rigs in the next year or two. I will be careful to buy something that is built better than this one.
