Hi there:

I wonder if anyone would recommend some good RV campgrounds in the Northern part of Vermont? We like State Parks as well..

Thank you.

Just found your post. There is a nice park in Stow, VT. Gold Brook. It is close to all amenities and handy to the von Trapp Family Lodge - a place definitely worth the visit. Stowe is a great place to visit even in Summer, when you can't ski.

Just when I thought that no one ever visits Vermont, I get your post:-) I was beginning to worry that it's perhaps not the best State for camping. We are actually going through Vermont into Maine and then the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick. So thank you, I'll check out to see if we will be going through Stow.

If you need info on New Brunswick, let me know. That's where I am - Saint John

Thank you, we appreciate that. Have you camped on Grand Manan Island?

I have been over to Grand Manan as a pedestrian passenger only. The problem has always been the restrictive limitations of the ferry crossing. However, since the delivery into service of the newer and larger boat, travel to and from may be easier.

Another island that is smaller, but has an interesting, if limited, campground is Deer Island. At the end of the island, you can camp right beside the "Old Sow" the largest tidal whirlpool in North America. The campground has electrical hook up only, but we like to go there at least once each season. Depending on the tide times, you can watch whales, sea dogs (seals) and dolphins from the lighthouse on the point or listen to the "Old Sow" as she swirls hard beside the point.

And, don't forget that we have an excellent campground right in the city of Saint John - Rockwood Park.

You can cross on a barge toll ferry from Eastport, Maine to Deer Island and then on the free New Brunswick DOT ferry to Letete, NB. That way you get to ride the highest tides in the world on the Bay of Fundy.

Somehow that message got out of order, with the reference to Rockwood Park slipped right into the info on Deer Island.

There's a lot of really good information here...thank you so much NB Camper. Is the Rockwood Park campground just on the outskirts of St. John's then?

The barge ferry sounds interesting. We have Cruiser 30SKP Fifth Wheel so of course we are looking for campgrounds and ferries that can accommodate us.

We're from Ontario just 1/2 hour North of Barrie so let us know if you ever need any information from this area.

Rockwood Park is right in the centre of the city, up on a bluff overlooking the Bay of Fundy. You could walk to the city market from there if you wanted to, or ride a bus.
When I moved here from Montreal some 30 years ago, I couldn't believe the "small town" feel of the place. Things have changed over the years, but not the friendliness of the people. If you are coming to the area, I am listed as a "Stand-By Sam" and can be contacted if you need any assistance.

I would be interested in your contact information so that we may have it with us when visiting that area later this summer. My email address is: alward54@gmail.com. We are new to the Good Sam club and are still learning about all the services that are offered
