hello. as i am new to the rv world i would like to gather as much info as i can. where are the hotwater tank bypass valves located and how do i access them. i have a 2009 sunset trail 30 bh. do i have to open up the box that encloses the heater. also, how or where do you put the antifreeze to get it into the system. do you pour it right into the water tank or is there a place or tie in at the pump.

thank you in advance.

I have a "08 30 BH so expect things are the same. Yes, you have to "open the box" which is just a frame around the heater by loosening the screws attaching it and sliding it to the left. You'll immediately see the two valves. If they're in the vertical position they're closedfor winterizing. Horizontal is open for filling & operating the heater. As far as adding antifreeze, remove the small panel under the bathroom sink to get to the pump. My trailer came with the winterizing option meaning the pump has a valve and short hose which goes into the antifreeze bottle. If you don't have this setup get it at Camping World. Make sure you have the water heater valves in the vertical position as you don't want to fill it with 6 or 10 gallons of antifreeze. Follow the instructions in your Sunset Trail manual. You'll find it's a quick and easy process and takes approximately 1-2 gallons of antifreeze. Ironically, I had to rewinterzie last week coming home to snow and freezing temps in Colorado.

Happy camping, Joel. You'll love your ST30BH.

I'll second what coastn has already said. My 30BH is an '07. Looks

like the only difference is that my water pump is in the bathroom under the sink behind a door instead of a panel. No panel to remove, just open it up.

A door! I'm envious. Wonder why they made it more difficult for the '08 model. Think I'll look into a door as a mod. Then again, normally I only have to deal with the small panel and its' four screws twice a year.

hey thank you very much coastn and csham.

Very helpful and appreciated. One more question though. Underneath the hot water tank poking out through the floor are two lines with caps. I would assume the one is for the tank itself, what is the other for?

Those sound like your Low Point Drains. Remove the caps and open a faucet inside to drain the water lines. One will be the cold side and the other for the hot.

I agree with Rock1424 that those are the low point drains. They will not drain the hot water heater. You have to remove the drain plug from the hot water heater from the outside compartment of the water heater.

Our 2010 water pump is located along right side of the queen bed under the stand with two screws, we have not used the TT yet but my concern with this location is the noise from the pump at night.

The pump runs on demand so you should not have any noise unless you use water or have a leak.

Hello. We have the 2011 30skp, with the new layout, (flat floor bedroom). Curious as to were the hot water by-pass is located. Below heater with access outside? We live in RI and it is time to consider winter. Just picked it up in Sept managed a weekend locally and a week in NH. We are quite impressed with our Crossroads product Thanks

On our 2010 30skp the water heater bypass is located behind the left panel inside the base cabinet to the right of the kitchen sink. You have to take the floor panel out of the cabinet first so you can remove the left wall panel in the cabinet. Its just the way it is put together??? I made an access door in the panel so I don't have to go through this craziness twice a year!

I guess I'll join the discussion. I have a Slingshot 32QB. I know where my hot water heater bypass is located...the question I have is should I have 3 valves or just 2? I have the piping setup that looks like a capital H on its side. I have what I will call a single levervalve switchon the bottom to turn off the water going into the heater. I have a larger valve switch on the crossbar to allow antifreeze thru. But at the top, I don't have another single level valve switch like I do at the bottom. It looks to me like anti-freeze will then be able to flow back into the heater along the tube that is normally the hot water out tube. I have a picture...wanted to post...but can't seem to figure out how to do that.

So, was it a manufacturer error that I just have 2 valves?

You should have the two valves that you have. The HW outlet from the tank has a check valve that stops water from entering the tank through that connection, so no valve needed there.

Thanks rock1424....that does make sense having a check valve. Being a new RV owner, you folks are all a great source of information. It was a great summer for us and alot of it was due to great people sharing information. Thanks again.

Hoping to get some information from anyone who might be able to help.

I have a 2012 Zinger ZT 31 SB- Wondering where to find the waterpump and if anyone knows whether I have a winterizing kit (hose that runs off the pump to suck up antifreeze).

Also where is the Water Heater bypass on this? The water heater doesn't seem to have access to the backside where I assume the bypass would be.
