I bought a brand new 2012 335SS last October. It has the delivery mileage plus about 600 miles of travel on it currently. I am currently preparing it for a trip to Orlando and having read in various places on the forum of axles falling off I decided to re-torque my shackle and U-bolts on the suspension.
Results: I re-torqued to Libert's specifications - the high end of the recommended range.

Results:
a) 6 of 16 shackle bolts needed tightening to reach the high end ( 50 Ft-lbs I believe) of the range.
b) 15 of 16 U-bolt nuts required tightening to reach the 70 Ft-lb high end of the range. Some of the U-Bolts required 1 to 1.5 full turns to be properly torqued.

Note: I re-torqued the wheel lug nuts last year and had a similar experience of under torqued nuts. 500 miles after my wheel nut re-torque the wheel lug nuts are still 100% to specification.

Bottom line: I doubt that a prpoer torque tightening procedure is performed at the factory.

Lesson: DO your own re-torqueing!!!

I too just got 2012 Cruiser and have started torquing last Monday on the wheels but never thought about the shackles & u bolts ! Wow I'm sure glad you posted this as I'm getting all set for the TX . rally next month and would not like that kind of trouble . Are all the CR suspensions the same and how did you find the spec's. to use because my owners book only shows the wheel torque lbs?

In my package there was a Libert " manual ( more of a flyer) which provided the wheel nut torques and the axle torque specs as well. If you don't have that go online to http://www.lci1.com/index.php?option...&Itemid=66 - this is the general page for all Libert manuals ( slides axles etc). www.lci1.com will get you there as well.

My axles for the 2012 335SS are addressed in the last section of this doc:

http://www.lci1.com/images/Flyers/Ow...le-web-10k.pdf.

The " flyer" I got with the trailer is the wheel and axle section of this manual.

I believe a constant vigilance for tightening bolts and screws on an RV is crucial.

We shouldn’t have to do the suspension bolts etc.especially right after factory delivery.but obviously we do.

Mine were a bit loose back in 2005/06.been tightening ever since.

I guess they can come loose and maybe QA at Lippert and CR would have found them but I do check all the bolts on the trailer and hitch every year before the first trip. Most of them are fine but sometimes get a little movement.

This topic was discussed in the older forum, but it is great news to bring up to all of the new members and to keep fresh. I also learned from this topic when it was posted a few years back and took it one step further and purchased some grade 8 nuts to "double nut" the axles as you will. So far after 3+ years...all is still good, but I will be rechecking this weekend on the de-winter checklist....

I had an issue of loose U bolts nuts, that resulted in a separated axle. They haven't been loose since I tightened them to 68lbs after the 2 axle was replaced. I will check them again once I pull the trailer out of storage in another month or two.

I agree with all of the above But (Puleeze )be sure your Torque wrench is calibrated well.. Having used a torque wrench many years of my employment life it was amazing as to the difference in values from one wrench to another. Some were very much out in left field.

I always tried to own a brand that I could send in at least annually for calibration.

As I am sure some serious wrench tirners can tell youthat in many cases you can just feel where you should be with a certain size wrench, then check for torque value and you will be surprised as to how practice makes perfect...JMHO jb

John,
I pick my 2012 28RKX up in a couple of weeks...I was feeling pretty good about purchasing a torgue wrench and check how tight everything was until you put in your comment about having to check the calibration...gosh, another thing to do. Can you recommend a good torgue wrench that will suffice for all my needs or do I just go with Craftsman. And then, where and how do I get them "calibrated" Sorry, I'm new to all of this but as I've been told "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!" And I firmly believe that.

Thanks,
Jim

Most any trade brand will have the service available Ala Snap On or Mac or Stanley ETC but they are pricy . I imagine a question to the sears craftsman franchisee will get you the answer from them. Even good ones are a 1 to2 lbs plus or minus so imagine what a out of calibration one could cause. I have seen it that way more than once. I get nervous when I don't hear the click when I think I should. JMHO jb. Remember if you get a click stop to always when done to unload the spring by turning it back to zero!!

Well Boomer Thanks MUCH !! after reading your post I crawled under and started torquing ever thing I could find and sure enough I found 2 shackle nuts needing about 4 turns to get them tight ! . Lug nuts were OK though . I haven't Flushed the antifreeze yet because in this part of AR. we have had some freezing and one year 18 in of snow in APR. !! So I'm taking my time because I can do that two days before we head for Kerryville .

Tim,
It's funny you mention removing the 2 chairs...we were heavily thinking of the model you bought but every time the DW said she didn't like the size of the kitchen which is why we went with our model. But, having said that ours comes with a 108 inch couch and that will be removed and a smaller couch will be installed along with a nice Laz-Y-Boy for you know who LOL. I pick mine up tomorrow andwill also be doing some local camping within 50 miles or so to break it in and I hope I won't be taking it back but who knows. Have fun, oh and btw where are you from?

Crawled under mine over the weekend and checked all bolts, along with the lug nuts--all ok. Takes a load off of my mind, I was a little concerned after reading this post. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Jim the dear wife & i just went out and looked at our set-up again and thought about moving the couch over under the bid window but the darn thing is to deep so thats out !

We have thought about taking the couch out altogether and just using the two recliners one by the big window and one where the couch was facing the TV because it's just the two of us .
