Yesterday stopped for gas in Needles,CA and the attended noticed the tires and said we had broken springs/shackles. 4 hours and 3000.00 dollars later we were on our way.He said as far as he knows that is not covered under warranty. He also told us this trailer was well built and if it was not then our wheels would have come of the trailer, we were lucky we needed to get gas. I asked about the axles and he said they were good. Now I am wondering how to make sure this does not happen again. It is a holiday we can't get the hold of anyone to ask about the warranty, it was 2.00pm and it would soon be dark and stressed about what could have happened. But I did read you have to get approval before the shop starts the work. When we left home in October we put on 2 new tires and the shop did not mention anything wrong with the springs or axles. The tires wearing out we thought might be that we were not riding levelt so we lower the to trailer to the truck and it goes nice. Does anyone know what would have caused this to happen. Thank for any input

not sure what happened. did you take pictures? $3000 sound awfully steep. you can buy new axles and springs with hangers and weld them on for that much. what trailer/year do you own? is it still covered under warrenty? glad you caught it and nobody was hurt.

The repair man said I must have hit a pot hole on the road, I think I would remember that if I did, nothing comes to mind, the way we come down from LAS to Needles there is no construction.

You may have had a broken shock but you would know if you had a broken spring. What was the name of this service center?

I got online and looked up gas shocks for RVs at PPL. They were $18.00. I think you need to look up all the parts on PPL and then go back and tell them you are getting an attorney.

All I can say is WOW! Hate to say it but someone had a Merry Christmas at your expense. I know you did not have much choice but to get it fixed I just think that is out of line. Since it is an 06 I doubt you will get anything out of Lippert or CR but who knows.

i feel bad for you. look at it this way- 134.96 per shock-198.72 per leaf spring and the real kicker is 21.88 per bolt. i would get to where your going and have a reputable shop look at your trailer to 1) make sure these repairs were done 2) give you a estimate for the repairs.

then i think you should contact a laywer. please post the shops name and info so others will be informed. also i'm sure if any of the regulars on this forum are near you, they will lend you a hand. if repair shop was a rv dealer for crossroads i would also contact crossroads and tell them what happened. as others have said i think you have no recoarse with crossroads because of the age of your trailer and your lack of documantation. again i'm sorry this happened to you. i hope you can straighten it out. keep us all posted.

The only reason we were at the mobil was we needed to fill the tank. Our 2 year warranty was up on the 28th May of this year. I looked up the axles and I think I read it was for 5 yrs. But when I asked the repair man he said my axles were OK

We had to have our axles aligned because the tires were wearing badly. The only way they can tell if the axles are ok is if they put the trailer on a rack with hydraulic equipment to straighten the axles. That is when they take measurements to see if they are bent. You can't just tell by looking.

I just read this better late than never.

I just replaced my springs on my 2004 Cruiser TT, all 4, and they cost me around $150.00 for all 4 and that included the ublots and top plates. I put also a new hanger in the middle welded on along with a trailer hitch and that cost me $260.00 New brakes were $170.00 for the Dexter never adjust 4 of them, and new machined aluminum rims $360.00. Thats a total of $940.00 for all them parts. ( I also put a wet bolt kit and Trailair equaflex too for a total on that of arounf $175.00)

They took you for sure, you didnt get half of what I got off the net and it was 3 times as much. Not to pile on to make you feel bad but to inform you that it just isnt right them taking you like that. Id be contacting a lawyer for sure.

Thank you for the info but our trouble is we don't know what we are talking about, if we were more knowlegable we would be better informed. What I do know is when I looked between the wheesl the traingle part was only being held by one bolt. Call it a spring or shock. The 3 bars or rods that are bent up were straight and a round hole was long. The repair man said the trailer was too heavy for the rockers/shackles so he put on heavy duty. Now this was on the kitchen slide where there is no extra weight. I could understand if it was on the large slide on the drivers side where all the weight is.I took out the heavy TV and added a flat screen so the weight is not there. I put on 2 new tires before we left in October and arrived in Arizona and had this problem, I think it was OK when we left or the tireman might have told us. Really now we have no confidence in going away on a trip I keep thinking What is going to go wrong next time. I think I know for sure next time the wheels are not going to be falling off.I hope. Thank you for your post

You did not memtion how much or what section of I 40 you drove. We just returned from a trip where we went from Lake Havasu to Meteor Crater via I 40. That is the worst section of Interstate I have ever been on. It has chuck holes several feet in diameter and about 3-6 inches deep. If that would not break springs then I am not sure what would. On the return trip to Las Vegas we found the West bound lane about the same.

We travelled down hyw 95 from Las Vegas, then there is a short time on I 40 before turning onto 95 south at Needles. We usually slow right down if the road is rough or is being worked on. At all times we do the speed limit and relax and enjoy the ride. Also now that we have driven all the way home, since Dec now it is April, there is no sign of wear on the tires.Glad to see that.
