quote: Gary,
Can you explain what "lubing" the tank valves and cleaning the seals means? I'm not sure what you meant by this. I use the Geo Method after every black tank flush but I haven't done anything with the seals or anything else.

X2 Could you explain that please

Not speaking for Gary, but have heard of using a non petroleum product on the seals. Have also heard some that dump some kind of oil, olive or vegetable, in the tank to "lube" the seals. I don't know but doubt that works. If you have ever added oil to water it will float on top.

One member said he was told to use Pledge on the seals.
I do dump olive oil in the toilet for the winter. It keeps the gasket from drying out.

That would work for toilet seal as long as there is no water. Do you do anything for valve seals?

I don't think anything would work on the valve seals beside pulling them and changing them when they are bad. But I'm sure if you keep them "wet" with the antifreeze that will help them from drying out.

I think the theory behind adding olive oil is it will remain on top of the BT soloution and leave an oil residue on the valve seals. I guess that assumes it will remain even after rinsing.
Sounds possible and I don't think it would be harmful in any way. JMO
I have not done it myself yet.

Hello Everyone. Sorry so slow to answer but been busy camping in between 65 hour weeks.

"lubing" the tank valves and cleaning the seals -
I use Teflon on the valve rods, working each of them several times.

Cleaning the seals, with them open I wipe them out out ensuring no debris is on the paddle or in the seal slot. Sturdy work grade disposable towel and toilet bowl brush from dollar store to scrub the open valve.

Using plumbers grease on the seal if needed. I have not needed that yet.

Like I said...I understand I am overkill with this. Does that answer the question?

I know some of you guys mentioned using vegetable or olive oil to keep things lubed up but it also helps in the drains, keeping the water from evaporating out of the p traps too. Especially in hot areas like this!

That might actually be a good use for it! Good idea.
