2015 antenna, different then manual, covering

just purchased a 2015 290QB. The manual still describes this as the crank down antenna with booster. there is no crank and no switch for booster. Salesperson at deployment was clueless. Friendly but did not know the product.

Thoughts on covering this? will the weight of the cover bend or damage it? Anyone know anything about this new antenna, is booster always on?

Some new antennas are fixed. That's probably what you have. As far as the booster, there should be a button around where you connect the TV cable. When you push the button and it's lit, the booster is on, but make sure you turn it off when you are on cable. Should look similar to this:

I have the same model and the switch is located in the cabinet above the TV. The antenna is fixed.

thanks for the responses. Since you have the same model. If you use a cover, do you do anything with the antenna so it is not damaged with the cover on?

I don't have an answer for the cover question but I know Crossroads does not recommend a cover. From the Crossroads website under FAQ:

Quote:
Should I cover my RV with a tarpaulin or canvas when it is not in use?

It is not recommended that your RV be wrapped with any type of cover. The rubber roof material needs to breathe and be allowed to dry thoroughly to prevent mold and mildew. According to the roof material supplier, the chalky look of the rubber is normal. Parking under an overhang or in a large garage is acceptable.

I do not use a cover for the reason that Mark quoted. If I did use a cover, I would cover the antenna with a plastic storage container or similar item to protect both the antenna and the cover.

Saw a variation of the Winegard crank up but with the wings fixed to a roundish pedestal on the roof..no crank up. Salesperson didn't know how it worked or if it worked well as it is non directional. Anyone have any knowledge of the efficiency of this particular antennae? Saw some on different manufacturers at the Denver RV show.

the antenna on this unit works very well. I was rather surprised.

The FAQ about the covers surprises me since they are so common place and sold as breathable. But again. We are new.
