I agree, this one does let you put in your Vehicle weight (GVW), I was just making a general statement. I actually like this one and played around with the numbers to see just how heavy I could get the truck and trailer combination and stay within limits. Its a fun tool. It also told me what I already found out at the scales, I am skirting on the edge of my Gross Combination Weight (GCWR).

cw3Jason,
That's what I wanted to share with the community. Most, not all , but most 1/2 ton RVers are closer to their max than they think. At the end of the day, its all about comfort of the driver. I'm conservative based on the cross-country towing we do.

Mark,
I know I am, With the setup my truck has, I have the largest trailer I would be comfortable pulling. Someday a larger tow vehicle and a 5er will be in my future.

I tow our Cruiser with my F150. Mine has the 5.0 V8. I took my pickup to a Cat scale and it weighed 5,180 with me and a full tank of fuel. I've got the 6650# GVWR package. 6650-5180=1,470. When I was at the Cat scale, I already had my 5th wheel hitch installed and in the bed of the truck. My tow rating with the gears and engine I have is 7,900lbs. I'm a little over. My Crossroads Cruiser CF28MKX has a pin weight of 1,510 pounds and an empty weight of 8,100lbs if I remember right. These pictures attached are from the day I bought it new, so there was no gear in it yet. As you can see, it didn't really even squat the truck. Pretty much just leveled it out. From day one I was only 40 pounds over my GVWR due to the pin weight being 1510 and my available weight being 1470. 40 pounds is nothing. Since then, we've put all of our things in it and it squatted a little. I bought a set of Super springs for $359 and installed them in about 30 minutes. Took care of the squat and made up for the weight I added by putting our gear in the trailer. Trailer is around 8,800 lbs loaded now and the pin weight is around 1700. I work in the oilfield and have driven trucks for a living since 2009. I've towed our Cruiser to San Antonio with no problems.

Nice setup. I love towing our Cruiser with my F150 Ecoboost.
Notice the gas price in the background says $2.90. Is that recent??

Thanks for the compliments. Just now getting on the forum. We're currently in Oklahoma City. I have a weeks worth of classroom work to do for work in Enid, OK then moving the trailer to Sayre after that. Those pictures above were taken in Skiatook, Oklahoma in February. I guess fuel is a little cheaper in Oklahoma than up North. I get 11.5 to 12 mpg pulling our 5th with the 5.0 V8.

In North East PA, gas went up to $3.65 today for regular. Enjoy your cheaper prices out there.

Nice setup with the 5ver. I couldn't be happier towing with my EcoBoost F150.

I have a Sunset Trail FW 34rk dry weight 9300lbs loaded about 10500lbs and I towed it with my 2014 Max Tow Ecoboost 2600 miles from Ontario to Alberta no problems just one day it was windy and the gas mileage was horrible 8 mpg that day the rest of the trip I averaged 12 to 14. Northern Ontario the hills are very steep. Lots of power. I love it .....

Ecoboost guys what's the average rpm the motor spins at while pulling down the road? When you do have to downshift is it V8 noisy or more diesel quiet?

I don't recall RPMs, but the noise is a consistent ticking/tapping. Engine is quiet otherwise on the road. What do you mean by "V* noisy"??

Pulling down the road anywhere from 1800 to 2500 rpms depending on terrain. Notice a little noise but when traveling the radio covers up what little is there. The first turbo could kick in at 1875 rpms. Don't recall downshifting noise.

Although we looked very closely at the Ecoboost, went with the 6.7 PSD. I know what you are talking about with "V" noise. The 5.4L we had before would make a lot of noise at around 2200=2500 before the shift. The 6.7 even in tow mode will make the same mph shift at around 2000. lower engine speed, lower noise. Pulled our 5er through the 30mph headwinds in Pa last week and couldn't be happier with the 13.2mpg and the small amount of noise. Didn't even have to raise our voices to speak inside. I also wonder if the noise level is different between crew and supercrew cabs regardless of engine type. I do remember we got tired of the constant shifting with the 5.4 in tow mode when going through a hilly area. I am very glad that Ford can keep gas and diesel jockeys happy when towing!!!
