Very glad to hear that Larry is doing well after the surgery. Hope to see you both in the spring.

No need to save pink stuff if you don't use any. Air is free! I only buy enough pink stuff to put in the traps. I blow all of the water out of the system with an air compressor.

Thanks everyone. Rick, we blew everything out with our air compressor but we put the pink stuff in to protect the pump as well as the traps. Winters here in VA are sporadic; could be a mild winter or down in the teens! Just want to be extra safe.

While I do not blow the pump out, I do make sure there is almost no water in the pump. A little water in anything is OK as long as there is room for it to expand when it freezes. I have never has a problem doing it this way. Takes about 30 minutes to winterize.

I do both. It may be overkill but the cost of pink is worth the peace of mind. We live at the coast in RI and some of the winter storms can really drop the temps.

How about visiting us at the spring rally.
Look it up in the rally thread.

Anthony blows the lines out and then we run the pink stuff through. it doesn't take long to run the pink stuff through. Maybe 5-10 min to get every faucet (including outside shower) and the toilet lines.

But...if there is only air in the lines, why do you need antifreeze? Jus' sayin'...

You will always have low spots in the lines, and water/moisture can, and will settle there when the lines are blowed out with air. If anti-freeze is then pumped thru, it will take care of this.

As long as the residual water has room to expand when it freezes there will never be a problem. My "air only" approach has worked for 7 years.

That approach has worked for many people for many years. I always worry that a low area just might be at one of the fittings/connectors and it will split. The tubing it's self has enough expansion/flex that I believe it can with stand some stress.
