Post Dual Gray Tanks - Confused about layout

We are new Cruiser Aire owners (and brand new to RV camping -- our first camper ever). Our unit is a 2013 Cruiser Aire model CTL28LB, with 2 gray tanks (listed as 52 gallons on manufacturer's brochure for this model). It has one shower, one bathroom vanity, one kitchen sink in a center island, and one outdoor kitchen sink. Can anyone tell us which fixtures drain into which gray tank? The Gray tank #1 seems to fill up awfully fast. After doing dishes, brushing teeth and taking a shower today, gray tank #1 shows full and gray tank #2 is still empty. So what goes into gray #2??? Thanks in advance!

Gray Tanks

Are you sure that your unit has three tanks? Do you have three gate valves to open when dumping your gray and black water tanks or just two? We have level monitors for 4 tanks but the RV really has only 3 tanks and therefore 3 gate valves.
We have a CF31RE-10 and I am assuming the plumbing layout is the same. If so, the kitchen waste water empties into one gray water tank and the bathroom gray water empties into the other gray water tank.
The kitchen gray water tank takes longer to fill than the bathroom tank.

Only way to truly know for YOUR rv
(because they may not be the same as the next guys same model)
other than crawling around in the underbelly,
is to empty all tanks,
dump water (colored if you want ) into one of the drains and see where it goes...
ours is odd and I just do the closed black tank AND closed extra valterra dump valve on the end, then open both grey tanks so it uses both tanks at once...

Yup, had to sort out mine too, colored water in the kitchen drain solved it for me...

On my SF270BH, the kitchen island sink feeds one gray tank. The other gray tank is fed from the outdoor kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower.

Dave, yeah it does have 3 gate valves to open. Two valves are up toward the front on the back side (gray tank valve and black tank valve). And there is a separate drain connection and valve at the back end of the RV.

Johnboytoo, we will certainly take your suggestion about the colored water down the drain to sort it out. Good idea. Not familiar with the valterra dump valve though.

Based on Johnboytoo's comment, does this mean that Crossroads may vary the plumbing layout from unit to unit within the exact same model? i.e - would Crossroads have one CR28LB feeding into gray tanks differently than another CR28LB model? And why might they do that?

I don't think 'crossroads' does it,
but the people on the line don't ALWAYS follow blueprints

They are doing piece work, i.e. they are paid for each piece they push out the door, so quantity and metrics are all they care about... if it works, all the more better !

According to the employees at the Crossroads factory rally in Shipshewana this past summer, if your unit has an island sink, your unit will have 2 grey tanks. One for the lavatory and shower and one for the island sink and outside kitchen (if equipped).

Well, we took it home and did the tests to identify which tank all the drains empty into. The results weren't as we hoped and are kind of illogical, it seems. As stated before, our Cruiser Aire has one shower, one bathroom vanity sink, an island double sink, and and outside kitchen sink. ALL of the inside drains go into the Gray #1 tank. The only drain that goes into Gray tank #2 is the outside kitchen. Just seems like a waste of a gray tank.

I would think you could redo the drains so that you could use both tanks at the same time for everything. Can you see any of the lines under the trailer?

A simple way to do that, is to purchase one these Valterra valves. That way you can keep that valve closed and open your two grey water valves and they will equalize.

On my Elevation, the second gray water tank is for washer/dryer. The Island sink dumps into same tank as bathroom sink and shower. Different model, I know, but all island sinks aren't plumbed the same.
