Bolts heads in batt box

We have 2014 cruiser 35ss, when its going to be a few weeks before we go out again, I take the battery out and keep it on a batteryminder to keep it fully charged. I looked inside the b-box the bolts used to bolt it down were sticking up the bottom of battery was sitting on the bolts and rubbing holes on bottom of battery. I think everyone should check this. I put 1x8 in box to set battery on. Hope this helps.

That's a poor way to bolt the box. Thanks! I'm checking it right away.

If they are going to bolt them down, the least they could do is use a carriage bolt and run it "down". With the threads outside.

Thanks for the heads up. Check our 335ss this morning and the four bolt heads had started to wear notches on both batteries. Can't believe they would do an install this way.
I used 7/16 plywood to make some inserts for clearance but didn't cover the vent holes. Did take some time, the location is terrible and those group 27 batteries are heavy.

Thanks again,

John

I just replaced my battery and noticed the bolt heads as well. I had some rubber matting which I put in and keep the vent hole open.

Good to Go!

You guys got me thinking about the bolt problem. JREN is right about the weight of group 27 batteries. I pulled my batteries out and found no bolts but rather pan head screws and fender washers. With the raised ridge waffle pattern on the bottom and the small pan head screws, I could see no indication that they were dong any damage to the battery. Maybe my dealer was thinking ahead when he installed the boxes on delivery! Way to go Mark and Mic at Jayhawk Campers in Shawnee, Kansas!
