Slide supports needed

We were at the dealership that is doing warrantee work on our trailer (not the one we purchased it from) and the service manager told us something we had never heard before, and I thought I would share it.

He said that our kitchen slide, which contains the fridge, stove, counter, cabinets and entertainment center is too heavy and if we park for any length of time (which we do in Florida), we should support it underneath. He said a customer had a bent slide due to it sagging under the weight. He also suggested putting it in and out once a week. We tend to keep the slides open when parked at home, so we may want to revisit that idea as well.

Hmmm, I've heard just the opposite...
if you put slide supports under it and the rv settles....
you have MOST of the rv's weight on the slide mechanism !

not what I'd want...

Loneoak, I don't know that I agree with your dealer. Those slides are suppose to be able to support their own weight, plus anything "normal" that is added.
Maybe, just maybe, something happen to that other unit that nobody wants to own up to????

I've been told the opposite as well. We called our dealer on our very 1st trip out and asked if the slides should be supported and they told us that it would void any warranty if the camper settled and the supports caused the slides to bend.

Also was informed the exact opposite by my dealer, and that it could void any slide warranty claims

X5. Have never heard it recommended. Manufacturers say no.

Supporting slides voids warranty according to my dealer. Call Crossroads Customer Service and confirm.

If confirmed, you might want to find another dealer ongoing. It's their job to know the product. Frankly, I know of two other manufacturers that have the same policy, so it may be an industry wide thing.

All things considered, it may not actually cause damage when used correctly, but CR probably had issues with misuse, they just took a stand (no pun intended).

I disagree with your dealer, because when 5 adults sit at the kitchen table and 2 on the couch, my slide has to be up there too for weight.

It's the same issue with using a compressor to blow out your water lines. If the pressure is set correctly and regulated with a commercial compressor, you can push 5-8lbs of air through the lines, but Crossroads customer service told me too many people just hiookup tire inflators and blow up the lines and send the unit back for warranty, so they now don't cover lines busted from use of compressed air.

On pg20 of my CR owners manual it says the following:
"In extended use situations it is advisable to add support blocks under the slide-room. Do not raise the room. Just touch the bottom."
I have always used supports with my slide.

Nah, no debate - just we each get to decide on our own and
do what we want to do and then we have the freedom to live with the consequences

Point taken,

Personally, I'd like to know Crossroads stance on this . Can't spook customers they can void the factory warranty and than recommend it in the manual.

I don't mind putting out the money for the supports if it extends the life of my trailer slide...

We are going to the Rally in July and plan to ask the folks at the factory about it.
