keyless entry - heads up

One day our keyless entry would not lock. At first, my husband thought the power must be out, but then we realized the battery would have taken over. I had earlier noticed that there are contacts in the door. This is to provide electricity to the door locking mechanism. We checked the contacts they were quite corroded. My husband cleaned them and then the thing worked fine.

If this had happened when we were trying unlock the unit instead of lock it, then this could have been serious since we are not in the habit of carrying trailer keys around. So we hid a key on the outside of the unit for just such an emergency.

So the moral of the story is - keep the contacts in the door clean, and keep an extra key on the outside of the unit somewhere, just in case.

Keep a key in the truck, and a truck key in the trailer That came in very handy one time

We do keep a truck key in the trailer and trailer keys in the truck, however, if your truck is locked, how do you get the trailer keys? How many times would you lock the trailer and walk somewhere, therefore not having any keys on you, either truck or trailer? Lots of times, in our case. That is why we attached a trailer key someone on the outside of the unit.

We prefer to lock the door. We keep computers, tablets, and very often, my purse in there. We think it is prudent to lock the door. Most campers are friendly and honest, but why take chances?

Use a magnetic key holder somewhere on the camper or truck. There's a lot of places that it could stick to on both.

I guess I have been lucky the only time I lock the door is if I am gone over night.

I can't lock my trailer without a key, so I am not concerned about locking the key inside. However, I do keep a full set of keys inside the truck, and the spare key to the truck in the camper. I am not worried about the truck being locked because I can open it with my cell phone, iPod or by just calling OnStar. I just like having the extras in case I loose a set.

My old truck had keypad entry. We kept keys to both in there. The keypad went out on me in a snowstorm earlier this year (it froze up) and gave me a wake-up call about that method. My new TV doesn't have that so I need a new system. We prefer to lock to protect what we have just in case but we also lock at night. We figure with a young child why take the risk of upsetting her or putting her in danger by not locking it.

With children I would lock my door with dead bolt
Not just keeping out unwanted guests
But keeping the small children inside so they can't wonder off when we the parents turn our heads for 1 sec

Doesn't your new truck have OnStar? You can download the OnStar app from iTunes or Google Play. I love the app. Remote start, lock/unlock, remaining fuel, oil life, tire pressures, etc.

We don't have On-Star either.
