Winterizing

I have a 2004 Cruiser 27rl 5th wheel. Bought it used and winterizing for 1st time. Do I need to blow out the lines and put in anti-freeze or just do one or the other. Also are there more low point drains than just the fresh, gray, and black water tank drains? Will the pit cock drain on hot water tank drain out all the water? Thanks for any help you can give.

Blowing out the lines will work if you get ALL the water out. I prefer to use anti-freeze from the pump intake. There are only the three low point drains. Open them and drain all you can by also opening all the faucets. Don't forget the outside shower. Close them, turn the two valves on the back of the W/H and go with the Anti-freeze. Add some AF to the shower and sink P-traps as well. The W/H will drain fine by removing the plug on the front (or opening the petcock if one was added) and lifting the pressure valve lever.

Stan dosen't the hot and cold lines have drains under the camper in those years.

CWIT, yes. The hot, cold and fresh water drains are the three I wasmentioning. I went back and re-read the original post and you are correct, Danmah said fresh, gray and black. My bad!

Danmah, you don't need to winterize the gray and black tanks other than make sure you drain them and flush out the black. Putting AF in the water lines will automatically put some in the holding tanks to lube the dump valves a bit

Sorry, I am lost. I bought a 2012 Cruiser, are the drain valves on the outside under the water heater? Where is blow out valve located?

I don't have a 2012, but the low point drains are visible from under the camper. There is two of them close together. Normally have caps on. Also a line coming down from the fresh water tank, with a cap.

There isn't a blow out plug on the camper. You have to purchase that, and it screws in where you hook the hose for fresh water intake. Then you hook an air hose to it from an air compressor.

On our 2010 TT they hid the low point valve under and behind a drawer in the bedroom. Water tank has a cap under trailer near filler. HW tank need to have plug removed or put a valve in-place of plug like a lot of us have.

I would make sure the presure on your air compressor is NOT too high. 45PSI should due. IMHO

I don't know whether you have a 5er or a TT, but my 2007 Cruiser 5er low point drain valves are just inside the basement door on the right hand side of the camper. There is also a low point drain for the fresh water tank underneath the trailer on the driver's side behind the rear wheels.

I do both - blow them out with 50 air and then fill the lines with the pinks stuff. Our unit came with the winterizing line at the pump suction. When I am all done I dump about a cup in each all of the drains. And don't forget the outside shower if you have one - just about forgot ours this past fall

I think the rule of thumb is 18' or greater and a center support would help.

Ditto: I also push some pink stuff through the black water flush and dump a gallon in each tank to protect the gate valves.

Black tank flush pink stuff some do some don't. I do, why not you are putting it everywhere else. I suppose more important if you store in a cold climate.

Put it in black last year and darn glad I did. Coldest and most prolonged cold winter we had in 20+ years.

Aw don't get upset, just keep grinning. While their trailer is tucked away for the winter we haven't winterized here yet.

Winterizing Texas Style: Take out the short sleeve shirts, shorts, swim trunks, and flip flops. Replace with a light jacket, long sleeve shirts, long pants, and boots. Keep on camping.

Our last scheduled trip of the year is with the NTXCA at Ft Parker State Park starting Dec 31 thru Jan 4th.

And then we start on the new years schedule....

It was 28º here yesterday morning at 8,000 above sea level and we have another 5 weeks before our employment ends and we can head for home. We may pick up some pink stuff just in case things get crazy.
