I hope someone can help me.... I have a 2012 Ford 150 truck with eco-boost. I am capable of towing up to 13,000 lbs. I just bought a 2012 Zinger, model 26BH (7,800 lbs). My question is, what type of sway bar or torsion bar do I need to tow this trailer with my truck?

I'm not sure what you mean by torsion bar or sway bar. Being a 5vr owner, I don't think that I'm the one to be able to advise you, but I think that you will need to look into buying a weight distribution hitch setup. There arenumber of good systems on the market that will have a builtin sway control system.

I have the same type of truck and similar trailer but the Sunset Trail 26bh which is the same size and approx the same weight, I have an Equalizer hitch the sway control is included in the hitch so you don`t need a sway bar, a little bit more expensive but a nice and easy setup. Check it out:

Pulled a trailer via a ball hitch many years ago - I had a reese weight distribution hitch withuot the sway control device. Then went the fifth wheel to motor home and back to a fifth wheel.

The trailer dealer should have set you up with the right hitch set up - probably at an additional cost to the trailer.
Some weight distribution hitches come with a sway control piece.

I towed a tow behinf for years and will highly recomend the Reese High Performance Dual Cam anti sway system and load leveling. You will ride a road never knowing it is back there....no bounce...no sway. Went to a 5er later but I remember some white knuckle episodes in my early years and how wonderful that set up was.

I second the reese dual cam. What you want is a weight distribution hitch with integrated sway control. Some brands that tend to be well recommended are reese dual cam, reese strait line, equal-i-zer, or the more expensive propride or hensley arrow hitch systems.

I had the equalizer and it worked great. Nothing to unhook when backing the camper makes it nice.

maybe I did something wrong but I never unhooked anything on my Dual Cam when in reverse. Last one was a Montana Mountaineer travel trailer 900 plus tongue weight.....12,000 trailer

YOu do not have to unhook to back w/ the reese dual cam or the equal-i-zer. You have to take a friction sway bar off to back up. IMHO a friction sway bar won't be enough for that TT. Bare minimum you would need 2 friction sway bars and you would probably find yourself upgrading to a new WDH w/ integrated sway control before long.

By the way, you will probably want the 1200 lb bars. Your TT is very similar to mine in build and weight. Our loaded hitch weight is just over 1000 lbs (best guess based upon how we load the TT and the loaded weight of the TT). And as for the towing capacity of the F150, I agree there is no way an F150, even if it is the ecoboost will ever be able to tow 13000 lbs. The most I have seen is 11,500 lbs.Edited by: anaro

My only experience has been with the Reese Dual Cam, never had any problems; very easy to hook up and disconnect. Never know when you will need to back-up (at a gas station?) and would not want to get out and take something off first.

I pulled a 28 ft bunkhouse for the past three years with the type of weight dist bars that have the chains(not sure on the brand) and two sway bars. Decided to buy the Equalizer with the new 31BH Sunset Trail. It pulls ten times better and the sway is ten times less then the other trailer. Both trailers had wide stance type tire setup. Best money I have ever spent.

Hi Everyone, thanks so much for your replies about the torsion bar/sway bar.
My Zinger RV dealer has suggested I buymy torsion barfrom him. He said it is a "weight distribution hitchwith 800 lbs weight distribution bars". The brand is "RV PRO" and it has an "adjustable receiver". I really dont understand any of this stuff, so could someone comment on this product for me? Is this what I would need for my 2012 Ford F-150 truck (I will be towing a Zinger trailer 26BH).Isthis thetype of hitch/bar that we will need to remove each timewe back up as some have indicated?

Any information would be helpful!!
