What is the "Sealing putty" exactly on the roof

All the roof vents and edges are covered with this putty. I see some spots that I don't like the looks of and would like to get some more so I can do a little better job than they did from the factory. It almost looks poured on in spots? I would like to use the proper stuff not just plumbers putty lol

It's called dicor. It's a self leveling sealant. It's the #1 item you should have on hand in my opinion. A tube costs about $10.

Dicor self leveling "is" the right stuff!!
You don't want to be changing that out.

A RV tech told me to clean and treat my roof. But only remove sealant if it was already loose. He said that after cleaning if there were spots that werent loose but I didnt really like the looks of, just apply more sealant over the top of the other.

He said you risk doing more harm than good to your rubber roof by trying to pull or scrape off sealant that is stuck down.

Great thanks guys,

Dicor it is, and I was NOT going to pull any off just fill in here and there on some questionable seams before I park it outside for the winter! I just read on another thread how they opened their new rig up on season one springtime to find it completely ruined inside from water intrusion. Im not taking any chances, I noticed one drip diverter on the corner is open underneath and the rain is streaming right down the side of the trailer over a window frame.. NOT GOOD. so that will be on the list to take care of. It rains mainly here in Vancouver so I bought the adco "moderate climate" 3 layer cover which I have not test fit yet but hopefully that will be a second layer of defence.

Again thanks!
Ron

I helped a friend this summer with his trailer and we found that you can pull away anything that is cracked and loose but unless it comes up willingly it will pull on the membrane. We figured that if it was that stuck it wouldn't harm it so we just put the new dicor right over the top. We a cleaner first to get all the dirt off and then did the application. He had not single leak all year even with all the heavy storms we went though.

Coopers dad makes a good point. Be sure to clean the old "putty" before adding a new coat of Dicor. Otherwise, it may not stick properly.

Many sites, including Eternabond, recommend cleaning the old sealant with acetone and a 3M scrub.

We uses Coleman lantern fluid. It did a great job cleaning and evaporated quickly. It was suggested to us by our local RV dealer where we purchased the dicor.
