No bunks
We're planning in advance our next trip and my son has invited a friend to go with us and we need some suggestions re: sleeping arrangements. We have a 28FB and it does not have bunks. The boys are 16 and approaching the 6' height. I know the couch opens up but we would need a new thicker mattress. We are also bring our rescued greyhound with us. Are there any other options for us other than the sofa bed? thanks

I'm not being a smart a** I would bring a popup tent or like item and have them rough it a bit. Unless its raining of course. 2 16 year old boys would probably enjoy sleeping out in a tent. JMHO

Generally the table will make into a bed also. Ditto on the tent for the 16 year olds

If I recall the layout of your trailer, that dining table turns into a sizeable bed. The table is oblong with booth style seating, right?

Yep, I'll go out there and check it out. We just bought this TT last fall and haven't used it yet. Thanks

Think air mattresses on the floor. Easy setup and take down, comfortable. Or you can put one on the pullout sofa bed for a more comfortable sleep.

I agree With avvidclif. We used to travel with two nice air mattresses for just such occasions. Worked very well for the teens! Of course they would have loved to stay out in a tent too, but unfortunately, it isn't as safe to tent camp as it once was. Many of the places we camped I may not have been able to sleep if they weren't in the rv with us.

My dining table makes a more comfortable bed than the couch does. However, I would rather put them in a tent. If they ain't safe in a tent, may need to rethink where you are camping?

I would venture a guess that a tent with two 16 yr olds near a TT would keep any curiosity seekers from a closer look. The tent idea has worked for us for a long time, and it also allows the kids and parents from still being able to talk to each other at the end of the vacation!!

Ditto,
We pulled out the bed in the couch and tossed foam topper on it for Grandma. She said it was just fine to sleep on.
Only issue is it blocks access to the bathroom from the front bedroom in our trailer.

I don't know that there is any "safe electric" heat source for a tent.
I would think a good sleeping bag and an air mattress would fit the bill real good.

Walmart has some great, easy set-up tents. We bought one when we met our kids in Colorado one year. Of course, the wind blew like crazy and it almost became a tumbling, tumble tent! That was kind of the incentive that made us buy a bigger travel trailer. We can now sleep six adults very comfortably. The super sized dinnette and the great sofa bed are as comfortable as our master bedroom bed.

This has some good info. I agree with just going with a quality sleeping bag myself.

Get good sleeping bags and you won't need a heat source. We camped in sub-freezing weather at 10,000 ft. in Colorado and stayed toasty in our good sleeping bags. Most bags have the temperature comfort zone listed.

A good sleeping bag with a Dachshund in it should keep anyone warm at night.
