You won't use the HOT line in the 7 pin you asked about. That connector doesn't affect the lighting system.
It needs a hot lead to power up the led power supply that runs the tail light light bar.

Huh?

Are you saying that you have more then 4 wires coming out of the unit?

Your source of power should be the three wires as I noted above.

If you have a live source besides, it would be on all the time and not work with brakes and signals.

What the light has is a 4 wire trailer flat plug.

A white wire the connects up in the light fixture to the back up lights.
And a hot wire that they suggest I run to the battery. (with inline fuse) The hot wire powers the little computer that makes the bar do it's funky things.

That's it. I was looking for a way to avoid running a 24 foot wire all the way to the battery. So I though I could just tap into the 7 pin connector.

Mark,
That 4 wire connector could simply be plugged in at the rear bumper IF you had a 4 wire and a 7 pin connector as many tow vehicles have, including mine.

The white is wired as a ground, yellow for left turn, green for right turn, and brown for running lights. That's it.

There's no need to have a permanent red or power wire. Your animated illustration shows a red wire. How come there's no red wire on the 4 wire plug?

Do yourself a favor first...find a truck with a 4 pin connector and plug it in before installing.
I think that will answer all of your questions.

Let us know what you find.

Mark, if your light bar is a 6 function I would guess the 6th wire is for the third brake light. On my '94 Ford I had to get that under the hood. On my '03 Ford it was in the left taillight assembly.

Reading the mfg instructions for a 5 function light it should work plugging it into the standard 4pin connector. There should be no need to run to the battery. The wire for the backup light has to be connected separately to the backup light.

That is how I interpret the instructions unless your light is different. No mention of running a separate wire to the battery.

Bob, somehow I missed your post and question. As soon as I get my scanner running I'll show you what I found out about installation.
