Trailer stays on site

I leave my zinger at the park a month at a time, when using the rv do you leave the black and grey open all the time?

Never leave the black open. The liquids run out and there is not enough water to flush the solids. It's OK to leave the grey open however. A day or two before you dump, close the grey tanks and then use the grey to flush out the hose after dumping the black.

No. You must have a volume of black and gray water to flush the tanks out properly. Leave them closed until they are nearly full, then dump, black first, then the grays. If you have a black tank washer use it. Flush the gray tanks with running water. Finally, fill the black and gray tanks with a few gallons of water to keep the seals from drying out and any remaining sludge from hardening. If you don't know about the geo method for cleaning, here is a link: https://sites.google.com/site/cbruni/
Even though you do not travel with the camper often, the geo method will help keep the tanks clean.

All good info above. If you do leave gray tanks open create little P trap in your sewer hose so you don't exhaust sewer gases off your roof top. That won't make you friends if you are parked for a month. Just let the hose drop down to make a u shape loop that will hold water like a p trap.

We leave ours seasonal all year. Gray is always open with a garden hose "cap" and garden hose going into gray drain (we don't have sewer).

We don't have a "trap" in hose, and no odors from gray tank (dunno about it with normal sewer hose).

You should follow advice - do NOT leave black open. We dump at 2/3 or full, and I send 3 buckets of water down after draining to "rinse" and help prevent the almighty pyramid. Every other drain I use the magic wand.

If odor is strong, fill black tank up with water before you dump so it is a full tank. We are on 4 seasons, and I haven't had any issues.
