We had more rain today, and thunder for probably the first time in 4 months. FEMA stopped by again today, wanted to give us a FEMA trailer to live in for 2 yrs on the property. They didn't seem to understand that we owned a much nicer trailer and will put it on the property when we are ready.

Today we had almost 50 volunteers working on our property plus the two relatives homes and four other homes in the neighborhood. And there were big crews working on three other homes. Still at least 4 homes destroyed in the neighborhood with no recovery effort so far.

Thought I'd post a picture taken the day after the fire. Only thing still standing was a single post of the RV port. I will leave it standing until the rebuild starts.

I'll try to post a more recent pic in a few days.

Here is a pic taken earlier this week, pretty much ready for rebuilding. Today, the process has started Three loads of fill dirt delivered. The concrete crew is available three days early, so tomorrow 7am, I have to pick up the lumber for the forms and move the rebar delivery ahead, and three loads of sand as well.

The RVport slab can be poured pretty quickly, but there is a lot of rough-in work to get done for the house slab.

Glad you are making things happen and it sounds like you are well on your way to recovery!! We had a resident family in this week from around the Austin area and they said the smoke smell is something that you really don't forget. Are you planning to cover the RV port as well?

The old house was pretty fireproof with metal roof and concrete siding on the east, west and north sides. And with 30 mph winds from the north, it would have survived. Unfortunately, the RV port on the south side was my weakness, open on two ends with wood posts and once the fire got started there, it slowly burned the garage and house down from the inside.

The new building will be all metal and the RV port will have a 14ft x 14ft sectional door. I have to do the rough-in plumbing early next week and then the concrete should be poured next Friday or the following Monday. Also tomorrow the steel will be ordered, so the welder should be able to start in less than two weeks. My goal is to be able to move the Cruiser back 'home' by the end of November and then live in it as time and money allows finishing the inside of the house.

Many families have it so much worse than we do. They don't have a second home on wheels. Some have just started their clean-up this week. And the homes that didn't burn completely are almost un-livable because of the smoke that has been absorbed into everything.

Update, it took about 100 cubic yards of fill to prepare the two sites. Concrete forms went up last week, then Sunday's great 4 inch rain set us back a day. Since all of Texas needs the rain, I'll gladly deal with the delay. In fact, by Wednesday, new grass and flowers were beginning to emerge from the burned soil, such a great sight. Anyway, we did rough-in plumbing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, the concrete crew re-dug the beams, laid down the plastic, installed all the rebar and rechecked the forms. Yesterday I picked up the weld plates, 50 lbs of concrete pigment and 5 gal of sealer, then rented two gas trowel machines. 6:30 am Monday the concrete trucks arrive, so by the end of the day Monday we will have an 18x44 ft RV port and a 30x44 ft house slab.

All good news!!!!!!!
Sounds like you will have a new home in due time. It's to bad anyone has to go thru situations like that, but I guess there is a reason for everything. Although, some times it's difficult to determine what it is.

Two days structural work by the steel crew, house portion lacks just the wall purlins and eave purlins. My truck looks pretty small sitting on the RV slab, and that structure should be done next week.

Today I installed two 4 inch drain lines across the front of the RV port. Tomorrow I'm mounting the circuit breaker panel and maybe finish hookup to the meter pole.

Day 4 and most of the structural steel is up, still need to frame up the windows and doors including the garage and RVport doors. Ordered the RVport door today, should be here by 11/14. The other good news is that since the significant rain two weeks ago, some of the live oaks and elm trees have new leaves budding out.
