X2 been doing it for 2 seasons now. I think both Lippert and Crossroads are just in CYA mode. If something happens, they don't want to be held responsible.

Ok,

I agree with cw3jason. Total CYA by LCI and Crossroads. I guess we can get into the same discussion about posted towing weights vs. what real world towing max capacities are.

I think the thread has met it's goal. Sounds like if the awning is out of warranty, have at it and anchor that bad boy down.

I have the Carefree awning on my Sunset Trail. With the sissor style arms my awning is very secure and so far I have had no problems with wind. My awnings also have the auto dump feature. The A & E awnings seem to have a lot more movement and will bellow up when a gust of wind gets under them. I also seen the tiedowns unhook themselves when they dump the water.

Lucky dog,

Alot of us are stuck with the LCI Solera awning. Not sure if the Solera is lower quality, but no one carries them aftermarket to compare. I only found Dometic and Carefree.

I have a 310SB and it has power awning. I was at the beach and we had it in most of the time. It would be nice to have it out more. However I agree with leaving and keeping it out not a good Idea. This Spring was Kayaking in Pine Creek PA and the camper next to us had his out while they went for Dinner. We got a nasty Micro burst and it took his awning and wraped it around the camper. (Like a mini Tornado). I felt bad for him. But I did learn something on it but it makes me gun shy now. Any Idea as to what kind of winds they are good for?

You shouldn't need the auto dump feature to work if you leave one side of the awning lower than the other. Water will run off the lower side easily. Mine is a carefree and i keep one side 2 pin holes lower than the other side.

Can you take a couple photos of where those pin holes are? LCI customer service couldn't answer my question when I called on how to do that.

Thanks!

when you put the awning all the way out and stand next to the scissor bars ,you will see 6 holes and a silver button that adjusts height.

Just a caution. Never adjust more than 3 holes difference between the 2 sides

go figure

Thanks a bunch guys...now to show my better half how smart i am next time it rains.

I will miss the suspense of sitting outside under the awning in a downpour to see who at the end of the picnic table is going to get doused with cold rain water.

Don't just wait till it rains to angle the awning . This practice should be done all the time. Awnings should be always angled in case you are not there or awake in a sudden storm.

I saw on another rv group a description on a support mechanism for the electric awnings that looked good. Basically a saddle T for the top, 2 pieces of PVC (2") and 2 pieces of 1.5" all 4 cut to 5' long. The saddle T goes on top of the 1.5" to go under the awning roller. Holes drilled allow adjustment of the height on each one to fit to the awing. A ratcheting tiedown strap that attaches to your pole and goes across the top of the roller and out to a doggie type screw-in anchor abt 2' in front of the awning, one per pole. That puts the load on the support pole and holds the awning roller on top of it.

One my to-do list, someday. If I find the article again I'll post it as it had some pictures that will make more sense than my description.

Just remember, you CAN roll up the awning after you drop one end a little. Will not damage anything by doing this.
