That's great Larry. If she is eating, I am curious why she is not talking? Have they said?

Larry
Glad to hear that she will be able to be home with family on Thanksgiving, and that her condition is improving is truly a reason to give thanks for your family...

Larry that is wonderful news. The fact that she can communicate so well with the iPad is such a great sign.

Tim- if Larry doesn't get back to you with a reason, There can be a lot of reasons behind that. Everything from sore throat to vocal chord paralysis to healing trach site or aphasia and a lot in between.

They took the trachea tube out on Thursday, so she is just getting her voice back. Did a little singing last night.

Update

Our grand-daughter has been in rehab for 6 weeks now and is making slow progress. Gone from feeding tube to soft foods to no restrictions. Managing to feed herself, but pretty messy as she still can't use her left hand. In a special wheelchair and a borrowed handicapped van she was able to leave rehab for Thanksgiving and Christmas for a few hours. Doctors have not replaced her skull yet as they don't want to interrupt the rehab process right now. But that also means she has to wear a protective helmet when active.

Physical, speech and mental therapies have been going good. Last week the doctors released her to begin putting her weight on her legs, so that part of therapy could also begin. And yesterday, for the first time in 3-1/2 months she was able to walk a few steps, but with the aid of a safety hoist. Today is her birthday.

Yesterday's big event. Our grand-daughter's name is Bernell, named after her great grand-mother.

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Bernell. It's good to hear that she is improving. The love of grandparents sometimes has a miraculous way of aiding healing and she has two of the best. We will continue to keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
