Howdy Folks. I just bought a 2007 ZT29DB and am wondering what the best lubrication to use on the slide outs would be. The book just says to lube it but is not really specific. Does anyone have any preferences? I am taking it across country from Arkansas to Washington State and need it in tip top shape.
Thanks,
Jim

I picked up a aerosol can of lube for my slides at the dealer. Suppose to be specifically for the slides.

Thanks a bunch! Would Armor-All work for the rubber parts or do they make stuff for that also?

I have used silicone for years. Some areas I spray it directly on the gaskets and or seals. If it is going to get on an area that I don't want it on, (over spray) then I spray on a rag and wipe.

I should have added----if your wipers on the slides are dirty, you can clean them with WD 40 then wash them with mild soap and water before applying the silicone.

When we had our Cruiser I was talking to Randy @ CR one day and asked about lubing the slide gears. He told me to take WD40 and have the DW run the slide in and out and spray the gears good to clear out any dirt and crud that had accumulated. I did this twice a year and then used silicon spray on them and the rails about 4 times a year. I follow the same procedure on the PP. Now this was about 3 years ago he told me this and things could have changed so you might want to call CR and see what they recommend.

I use Protect All or 303 Protectant on the slide seals. Edited by: Hunter11

Here's what my Lippert manual says about System Maintenance:

"The Lippert Electric Slideout System has been static tested to over 4,000 continuous cycles with out any noticeable wear to rotating or sliding parts. It is recommended that when operating in harsh environments (road salt, ice build up, etc.) the moving parts be kept clean and can be washed with mild soap and water. No grease or lubrication is necessary and in some situations may be detrimental to the environment and long term dependability of the system."

I question why they would state that no lubrication is necessary. Any thoughts or experiences?

I was told in 2008 by the guys at CR to use WD40 on the slide out gears and track like Keith said. If you spray it periodically with WD40 it will rinse off any dirt and grit. The WD40 also will help prevent rust and corrosion but it will not trap grit and dirt like a grease would. I have DW run the room out while I spray the gear on the front track then I go to the back track and spray the gear as she runs the room in. It seems to work well and I can tell when it needs to be done because the room starts to get a little noisy when it is in motion. After the WD40, it is quiet as can be.

Lonnie, thanks for bringing this post back up again. I need to take the WD40 to ours before we leave Thursday.

Since this post is slide out lubrication....

Does anyone lube or put anything on the seals? After my slides are in for a bit, the seals seem to stick when first put out. Any suggestions?

I use 303 protectant on the seals on my slide-out. After I wash the seals down and they dry I just wipe 'em down with 303. It seems to keep them pliable and they don't seem to get as dirty.

Same thing here, 303 Protectant after the seals have been cleaned. Ours begin to stick after 3 or 4 month's if I don't put 303 on them.

Keith_

Thanks for the tips on WD40 and 303. I'll incorporate them into my preventive maintenance program.

lube attracts and holds dust wich is equivelent to sand paper on the gears when you slide in and out.

As a note use a piece of cardboard above the rail when spraying so as not to get overspray on the bottom of the slide as this will drag across your carpet when sliding in.A tip We picked up here or on the old forum. We use WD-40 on ours as well.
