Our class A
This is the motor home we traded our 5er for. Some of you asked for a picture so I hope this works.

cwit, you are spending the kids inheritance!!
Just kidding. Congratulation on the Class A. I know in the past you have talked about going that route. Good for you.
All tho, I must admit I expected to see a picture of a Prevost.

I told my children that my wife and I are spending their inheritance as an incentive for them to go to college and get a good paying job. Or marry rich.
BTW cwit, good luck with the class A.

That is real clean piece for an 04. I gotta agree with you about spending your moola, but I'm not worried about my kids getting it, I'm worried about UNCLE SAM getting it..

CWIT, congrats and I hope you get many more years out of it. I have been looking at A's every time I go to a camper show. Seeing as how I bought a new TT in 2012...then traded that in on a new CR 5er last April, and of course upgraded from an SUV to a Diesel, I have been told we're not upgrading...at least for another year or so. The main reason I would think of doing so is the amount of miles we spend travelling once we get to the next campground. Last year I budgeted for 4,500 miles for our 4 months of travel and ended up with over 10,000. When you spend a week to 10 days in one spot you tend to look for more and more to do. This year we're hoping (lol) to stay closer to where we're going and not make as many long side trips. I'll see how that works. My kids told me I have to stop acting like I'm on a year-long vacation and start thinking more like I'm living in one place for an extended period of time. So, hauling a fuel-efficient car behind the Class A certainly has its merits. Good luck.
Travel well,
Jim

We want to do some traveling out west and go from NY to FL every year. Running from the truck to the 5 er for pit stops got old for my wife so this was her idea. I am one happy camper. Cold weather and in the rain is not fun lol.

I'm with you, don't see nothing wrong with the year long vacation thing. I started in the year long vacation mode last September. Unfortunately the snow prevented me from doing a LOT of the year long vacation STUFF. Hope to get caught up now that the weather is changing.

Lots of advantages to both a Class A and a 5ver. A 35' 5ver has more usable interior space compared with a 35' MH. The cockpit on the MH uses a couple of feet of interior room. When we are stopped for more than an overnight we turn the driver's and passenger's seats around. That somewhat negates the deficit.
Some of the biggest differences are ease of setup, far more basement storage, totally self contained and large, mostly American made highway tires.
A 5ver can be more economical on the road with a diesel truck. I used to get between 10 -12 mpg hauling the Cruiser behind our 3/4 ton Duramax Chevy. The Chevy's driver's seat was the most comfortable, supportive of any I have ever sat upon. The MH gets between 5.5 and 7.5 mpg depending on wind direction and speed. Our C-Max is usually in tow but even without the car there is little difference in mpg. Most of the time I am getting 7.5 mpg.
Cost wise in the MH vs a diesel truck/Cruiser combo the MH is more expensive. Add in the cost of a new toad and, even for a lower end MH, there is a vast difference. Comparing a similar grades of 5ver to a MH and it is probably advantage 5ver.
Gas motorhomes depreciate like a boulder over a cliff. 5vers are similar. Diesel MH and diesel pickups hold their values much better.
It all comes back to how you will use the RV and what floorplan you desire. For us, at our ages, mid to late 60s, we would not buy anything other than a MH. It is easier to set up at a campground and does not require us to get out into a whirling storm to setup. 5vers are catching up. Now it is possible to get a six point automatic leveling system but you still need to be out in the weather to unhitch and level.
Bottom line, again, is personal preference and floor plan. No one should claim one is better than the other as it is whatever works for you.

I agree with Art. WE both liked our 5er a lot and would still have it if we could not find exactly what we wanted and needed in a class A.

Art,
Succinctly and perfectly put. I realize now at 67 that in a few years I may or may not be willing to be willing or able to do the setup with the 5er. Last year, our first full-year until my illness, for exactly 1/2 of the 6 months we were traveling we either set up or broke down in rain. Sometimes a light rain, sometimes a pouring down deluge. In the spring or early fall when it's perfect weather it's not that bad...but in the summer when it's in the 90's, it makes for some tough driving when you're soaked and you need the A/C on. Live and learn I guess. I do try to do as much as I can night before, and I assume in the future I'll start dumping the tanks if I know it will rain the next day and have all the hoses unhooked so all I have to do is unhook the electric.
Art, I had met a young man (60, and I'm calling him young lol) with a 38' motor home and he pulled a huge trailer with a Harley and a Jeep in it. I remember saying I couldn't imagine his mpg. His comment to me was that he got close to 8.8 whether he was towing or not towing. I was shocked that he got 8.8 and I only get 9-10. But, now I hear you say you get 5-8. Is it because you have a gasser. I appreciate your honesty, I see so many people try to say they get 12-14 while towing, and for the life of me I can never believe them. Thanks Art.
Travel well,
Jim
