Rewire speakers

So the wife and I took out the ST26RB for the maiden voyage this weekend and pretty much everything was awesome ;-) except for one minor annoyance. The radio has A, B, and C choices for playing music however only A & B play music... the kicker is that both A & B choices pair 1 indoor speaker and 1 outdoor speaker so basically we cannot listen to music inside the trailer without music also playing outdoors.

The plan is to try and find the speaker wiring diagram so that I can change A to indoors and B to outdoors at the back of the radio.

Very easy to fix. Four screws will pull the unit out, then just move the wire to the correct position. 10 min job.

That is what I was hoping, actually 5 mins would have been better but no complaints about 10. Seriously, I wasn't sure how the radio was wired but even if I had to cut wires it wouldn't have stopped me.

Unless someone didn't do it, all wires are labeled.

Is your unit a Genesis 2.0? If so Google for the manual. It's a PDF file and shows the wiring diagram. Our has pigtails for adding a "C" set of speakers and a subwoofer. Pop the end plates off the unit, remove the screws and slide the unit out.

Call your dealer and Crossroads and complain to let them know there was a problem so maybe the installers at the factory will know they made a mistake and maybe be aware of it. That should have been caught either at the factory (if they ever got a final inspection implemented yet)or at the dealer when they do the incoming inspection (haha) or at least at the pdi.

I can't recall the radio model so I'll check when I get home and remove it for a quick inspection. I've installed many a car radio so I'm not too worried, especially if the wires are labeled as mentioned by sle1995.

I would like to think they had noticed it at the factory or during the PDI, however one of the front hitch facing LED's didn't even work when we did the walk through, and actually wasn't even hooked up to power. I will take the advice and call both the dealer and crossroads and let them know about the issue, if they aren't made aware of the issue they can't get better.

My entertainment system seems to be wired funny. Imaging you are standing in the center of the trailer and facing the kingpin. On the Entertainment Center:

Balance Right includes the Left Front and the Right Rear Speaker
Balance Left is the Right Front and Left Rear Speaker
Fade Front is the Right Rear and Right Front
Fade Rear turns all four speakers down

It's almost like they daisy chained the speakers as opposed to using separate channels. Anyone have any insight?

Find out the brand of entertainment system you have. Google the install manual, Remove the unit and check out the wiring into the unit. Good start.

mark5w is spot on here (as usual), but how far are you from your dealership? If you don't want to monkey with it, you could get them to fix it. It's certain that the wiring is wrong.

I just replaced the original speakers and figured out what they did. The zone A on the entertainment center has outputs for front left/right and rear left/right. What they did was only use the front channels. They cut into the positive wire and put in one speaker and then wired the second speaker on that same wire so they were daisy chained. This is not in accord with Jensen's installation instructions. And, the balance and fade functions do not work correctly.

Any of you that have had RV's for a while know if there is a reason they did this or is it just bad workmanship? Do you think I should make an issue of it with Crossroads? Everything works.....just not to its fullest potential.

I would have them fix it. Not supposed to be done that way.

My Dutchman had similar issues. I pulled the stereo and there was a label in the back of the stereo. I would not trust how the manufacture labeled the wires. always refer to the head unit. the unfortunate reality is they often go from 18-20gg wire coming from the radio and attach it to lamp cord and there is a substantial signal loss.
