After a long absence, I'm back!

I have a 2006 Paradise Pointe PF36RD that I bought new but has been used VERY little. In storage it seems the sun is always shining on the door side of the unit and now the graphics are becoming dull, and the red 'swoosh' on the bedroom overhangactually has some black spots on it and is cracked in places. I tried some color restorer cream last weekend but it did nothing because it isn't a paintedsurface.

Any suggestions or solutions?

We have the same issue on the door side of our 07 PP. Ours does not have the black spots or cracking yet but does have the graphics fading. As far as I know there is not much you can do about it other than replacing the graphics.

Thanks, Hunter...I'm thinking after my trip next month I'll see what it will cost to have all the decals removed and replaced with paint in the same colors and configuration.

I am pretty sure Keith (Virginia RVers) is having the same issue on his 07 PP.

I have an 06 and the dark red decal is also starting to crack, I can see the white gel coat thru the small cracks, but mine is not on the door side...

Knock on wood that I haven't noticed this yet with any of my decals. Then again since we spend the first half of every summer at the little league park, our decals our inside and not exposed to the sun. I don't have gel coat but how difficult will it be to have the graphics fixed if they are under the gel-coat?

Scott, ours does have the gel coat sides but thegraphics are on the outside. They are just like the ones that were on our Cruiser without the gel coat sides.

Thanks for heads up. I always thought they put the graffics on then the gel-coat so the graffics would be protected.

I just replaced one of the Burgandy graphics on the side of our fiver that faces the sun when it's parked in our drive. I keep it cleaned and treat the graphics with Renew, but the heat on the dark graphics eventually takes its toll. It looked fine when I did the fall cleaning in 08, but when I started the spring inspection in March this year it was blackened and cracked. I had my local graphics shop cut a new one to match my tracing and installed it last weekend. Looks brand new.

Mine started out with dark spot and now I have one that has cracked throughout the whole thing. I have not inquired with Crossroads about a replacement yet. I figure it will not be an easy fix on my end. No local dealership to assist, so it will be up to me if Crossroads provides the replacements. It does make the unit look bad, but guess I can live with it for while longer.

Keith check with you local sign shop some times they are quite real on their pricing. I let them install it also, better to let them mess it up than me, that way if they have replace it, it is on their own dollar. They also should have better grades of material that will hold up to the sun better.

For those who have had graphics shops make new ones for you, would you care to share the cost, ballpark?

Thanks

Steve, my replacement piece was roughly 13 feet long and it cost me $100 for the material and for them to cut it per my tracing and then apply backer and face paper which allows for installation. It probably would have been less if they would have had the matching vinyl in stock. As it was they had to order a roll. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, DELQCC. It's about what I figured. My Dodge truck is inferno red..almost like the burgundy stripe but a few shades different. I think I may remove the graphics and paint them on to match the truck exactly. I don't know how much residue there may be after peeling them off, but I guess I'll find out

I had the same problem with the red and now the rest of them are cracking too on my 05 PP. I went to CR inside of the 2 yr mark to have them replaced. Nicely they said pound sand they would send me the red graphics but had to install them myself. Well folks I am taking them off as they crack and will pull a white box around. In time I may have them painted. When I tried to put one on I had a heck of a time.

If they start to crack and color runs on the gel coat it is very hard to get off.

I just got an estimate to do full body paint on my unit, and to do it exactly the same as it is now, with exception would be to not pain the sides of the slides, but everything else....best price 6K....way to much to put into oneof these units, so I guess I will let them crack....

I asked just about painting the graphics and that I would do the prep work. I must tell you it is no easy job to heat and scrape (plastic blade) the decals off. But that being said watch the red strips as they tend to bleed onto the gel coat and the stain is impossible to get off. He quoted me a little over 2K just for the strips. I am with you it is to much to pay. I live in the inside and it is great.

I have to agree on the cost being way to much for this unit. Like others have said, I will just pull it around and use it with the ugly stripes on it. I paid $100.00 for the grapics on my truck, but I cannot see spending 2-6K on the trailer strips to replace bad ones.

Decals on RVs, Motorhomes and Cars

Have you ever had your decals or 'stripes' on your RV, motorhome or car fade or crack from oxidation? Here is why.

The decal/stripesare vinyl. As a general rule, one should refrain from using anything containing petroleum distillates or abrasives on vinyl, including Vinyl decals. Unfortunately, most waxes contain petroleum distillates and often abrasives.

303 Aerospace Protectant is the only proven effective treatment that is safe for vinyl.

Therefore if you use wax on your motorhome it would be best to treat the vinyl decals first with 303 Aerospace Protectant. Spray on/wipe off. Then 303 would repel any wax over sprayed or wiped onto the decal. It's quite durable and effective repellency is an added benefit 303 Protectant provides in this application. "I pulled this from the '303' Products web page. I just started using this protectant this Spring. Luckily, mine have not started to fade or look bad. Hopefully, this will keep it from that or at least the decals will last longer."
