The electrical cord hanging out has always bothered me. Good place for "critters" to get in.
I decided to close it off so that can't happen. Here are a few pics of my mod.

Parts used.

Opening with plywood attached from inside. Cord has been cut off leaving about 1 ft.

Flanged inlet in place.

This what I put on the end that was cut off. It will plug into the flanged inlet.

This the finished project. Plugged in and working. Door still closes same as before.

Very neat. It is on my list, thank you! I always hated fishing around in the compartment to find the end and then pulling it out, particularly when the cord is cold and stiff. Where did you obtain the receptacles?

Nicely done.....I had not thought using that material, instead I used some 2x4's and plywood to offset the plug so I could still close the door while plugged in. The marinco plug is about 4-5 inches long.

I had the electrician who wired our house order them for me.
I would think any electrician or electrical supply house could get them for you. If your particular need is "30 amps" Just ask for--- 30 amp flanged inlet. Make sure you get both ends.
50 amp flanged inlet is also available.

The official NEMA number for them is L5-30. The cable end will be a L5-30 connector and the inlet is a L5-30 flanged inlet. They should be available at any electrical supply outlet.

Old Farmer,

Nice job. How did you get access to back of the cable opening to mount your piece of plywood?

Hamops.
We have the rear kitchen. The whole back of the 5er is counter with drawers under it.
In the very outside there is a panel that is screwed on. The compartment for the cable is right behind it. I realize not all the units will be that simple to get at.

The plywood attachment on the back side is screwed into what? I might try this with my Zinger. 2 times I've had mice get in on the plug side!!

It's screwed to the side wall of the RV, but only to hold it there while the liquid nails sets up.

I will have to look into this as well. Have not had any mice problems, but twice now I have noticed water in the compartment after a heavy rain. That should stop the water from getting in too. Edited by: nc_medic1

This was one of my first mods also. I used marine connectors going into the trailer they work great. I really like using the detachable cord. I posted my mod on the forum so you might be able to find it.

nicely done. I like it.. This has been on my "todo" list forever..

I want to put the receptacle on the rear of the camper some how. That is why i stalled on this project. I hate running the cord all the way down the length of the camper to get to the rear. All of the campgrounds i have been to the electric box is at the rear, So why not the cord. Then i will only need a short cord.

Can you give us the link to your mod?

I tried searching, but kept coming up "no results found"

I'm looking for pictures of both sides if possible.Edited by: rv-rick
