Advice for new owners

Here it is: before you go anywhere with your brand new RV, go over it from one end to the other and touch up any caulking that needs it.

They don't always get everything right at the factory, and if water gets in, you could be looking at big dollars to repair the damage. Make sure you get the right color of caulking. Also do the shower.

We had major water damage which was recently fixed by the factory under warranty, but I would hate to think what it would have cost us if we had to pay it. I was just cleaning the shower and felt around the caulking, and I think I will buy a tube today and touch up there as well. I have some scrapers on order to scrape off the caulking I got wrong a couple of months ago and used white instead of clear. Then I will be going over the entire unit.

Caulking also needs to be checked and touched up on a regular basis. It is probably the most important maintenance item you can take care of.

x2 I totally agree. The factory missed all sorts of spots I found during the PDI and I too had a leak from a spot that I didn't catch right away. With all the bouncing and twisting from travel. I add a little lap sealant to spots on the roof about twice a year.

For those that store their over the winter, check your rv for any signs of leaks. If you can, check the seals on roof also. Cold weather is hard for expansion and contraction, and you don't know what can open up.

I know a guy with an older camper whose roof just split down the middle.
