Key Cam Lock Upgrade

A quite a few people have done this in another forum, so I figure I would show you guys, too. I find on my camper, the cam locks are a pain. You have to find the keys every time you open and close a compartment. Half the time, I leave the keys in the lock, and then wonder where I forgot the keys.

I installed these thumb cam locks, made by Fort Lock company. These, you can unlock them when you get to the site, and open and close them without the keys. Then, lock them when you want. Some assembly is required, and you have to work with small parts to put them together. These also do not work on outside showers, since the lock is recessed.

We ordered ours from http://www.wholesale4inc.com. The guy is friendly, and if you call and ask for the RV lock, he knows what you want, since he has been selling a lot of them since the first guy modder found the lock.

I take it you got all them keyed alike?

Did you get a different code then the infamous CH 751's?

r2millers...I like the "infamous" part! Over half of my cam locks are froze up even after I disassembled and cleaned. this looks like a great alternative. Choochooman74, did you get a good price buying several?

They are keyed alike. They are not keyed to the CH751. The key is smaller in size. Since I only got 4 (used 3 because the shower), they were still just under $10 each. Not cheap, but they seem like they are good quality and heavier than the stock ones. And I like the fact that I don't have to grab the keys all the time. At the house, there is no need to lock the compartments, so I love that I don't need the keys.

NorskeNY, not sure about the crossroads products, but these are shorter than what Forest River uses. They stick through the back of the door less and I ended up using the stock keeper, just flipped the other way, for a nice tight closure.

I too have thought about changing out my cam locks because they are the CH751's which 90% of us have from the factory.

Pondering whether it's better to have different keys and tick off the thieves, tearing up the doors to break in, or just keep these and not put anything of value beside chairs, mats, dumping tote, etc in storage.

I wouldn't change just one, knowing the thumb tab would allow for much easier access and resulting damage.

Anybody use other higher security cam locks besides choochooman that they recommend?
