New Kingston 5th wheel owner

Greetings from Georgia. I’m new to the Crossroads family but anxious to learn all I can and share experiences. I recently purchased a 2010 Crossroads Kingston 35 SB 5th wheel camper (second owner) after having owned a Class A motor home for several years. Everything about a 5th wheel is different and I’m finding that not only are there things that I don’t know but there are things that I don’t even suspect. I’m hoping that this forum will be where I can find answers to some of my questions as I fumble through the learning phase. I would love to hear from other owners of the Kingston 35 SB who might have experiences to share. BTW: My tow vehicle is a 2011 Chevy 2500HD Duramax.
Thanks,
Randy McCaslin

Welcome aboard! I don't know anything about a Kingston so can't help you there. However, there are lots of folks on this forum who are willing to share their knowledge so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome to the forum. I own a Cruiser so can not help too much with the Kingston either. I am curious as to why you switched to a 5er from the class A though Just asken

Welcome, and good luck with your new Kingston. I'm sure someone here on the forum could share their experiences of their Kingston with you.

Hi Tommy and Rosie,
Thanks for the welcome. We really liked most of the conveniences of the Class A but there are disadvantages too. Mainly that unless you towed a car you are stuck were you set up camp most of the time. We had a Fleetwood Bounder that served us well for a lot of years. We had it a long time and it didn’t have any slide outs and was beginning to show its age.
I had never heard of Crossroads before I came across this unit at a local dealer were I had gone to look at another a smaller camper. This camper has everything we were looking for and much more. My intent was to go with a pull behind because I didn’t want to put a hitch in the bed of my truck.
We’ve done two shake down trips and are really pleased with the camper so far. There are a couple of small issues I’m having the dealer address but nothing major.
I’m hoping to meet other Kingston owners here so we can compare notes.

Welcome aboard, and congrats on your new rig! One thing I recommend is a set of air bags for your truck. It will take a lot of the bounce out when you hit bridges and so forth, as well as level the truck up and make it handle better.

Good suggestion on the Air Bags, I've all ready had that though because the camper does press the truck suspension an inch or so. I've looked at and considered the "Air Lift" Loadlifter 5000. Are there any opinions on brands of air bags one way or another .
Thx.

Why don't you take a look at Firestone bags?

Make sure the air bags are compatible with your hitch. With my Superslide I could not use air bags, so I used the Roadmaster Active Suspension instead. Check it out http://www.activesuspension.com/ Does a lot more than air bags IMHO.

gone camping

I have had a few trailers in the past the most recent 2013 Rushmore Roosevelt 39 and it seems that all trailers are similar for the most part they have only so many manufactures that make all the components for these things so you can get help from just about anyone .

Hi Randy and welcome. It don't appear there are to many of us around from the Kingston line. Mine started off bad and was called the camper from hell by the factory service. It was sent back to the factory twice from Louisiana and all issues were repaired plus it came back with extras. Ours is a 33sk and we love the floor plan. You can look at my post in mods and see all I have added to it. Hope you enjoy yours, fell free to ask away.

I have Firestone Ride-Rites. I've had them on my truck since 2011 and they've been great. I have the onboard compressor with a switch and pressure gauge mounted inside the console so I can adjust the pressure from inside the cab. The system works very well. There may be better brands out there, but I've been pleased with the Firestones. Not sure what the retail cost is, my dealer installed them when I bought my Blue Ridge back in 11 and sold them to me for 'cost'. (I'm sure he made a little on them, lol.) Seems like they were around 700 or 800 bucks installed including the compressor, but you might be able to beat that if you install them yourself.

I put the same system on my truck last fall,"Air Lift" Loadlifter 5000" was easy install and made the ride empty smoother and made the truck level when pulling. Got it at Summit racing best price and free shipping. I think the price was around $250

Nothing compared to the Roadmaster upgrade, I've had airbags, air shocks and some foam cell gadgets. The Roadmaster is by far the best suspension upgrade for towing or no load use I've ever used.
