I just have a tonneau cover over the bed. I use a flat bungee cord hooked between the mounting rail in the bed to the release handle to keep the handle down.

I have a tonneau cover, also a flow thru 5th wheel tailgate. Problem is when on a gravel road it is just like a vacuum cleaner back there. Sucks dirt and dust in like crazy.

I also use a tonneau cover over my Reese 16k slider. When not in use, I rotate the handle down so it doesn't poke my cover. Since you have to have the cover pulled open when transporting, I put the handle in the original position and just go.
When I get a minute, I plan on rotating the handle and redrilling the hole for the clip so I don't have to rotate when I camp

Maybe a piece of tempered hardboard or thin plywood cut to fill the tailgate area, created with the 5th wheel t/gate. Tabs with quick connect pins to easily remove when trailering?
I also like Ralph's idea of re-drilling the jaw handle with a standard t/gate and cover.

I thought about something like that to close the tailgate up, but I can't bring myself to drill any holes in the gate.
On my handle, I just pull a snap pin, flip the handle over and put the pin back. It's then upside down and away from the cover.

Home made cover for the hitch using waterproof nylon fabric. Bungee cord sewed around the edge with hooks that attach to the open ends of the slider tubes (or slots in the rails). If necessary, cut a small slit for the handle to slip thru and sew up the edges. Grease from the hitch head gets on the nylon, but I just fold the cover when I take it off. This has worked fine for 11 years.

A barbecue grill cover may fit the entire hitch. I never thought of covering mine while it's in the truck because of my tonneau, but I like the idea of covering it when I take it out because I just leave my under the nose of the 5er parked in its carport. I have an old floor creeper that I set it on so I can roll it around on the concrete floor.

I have seen a hitch covered with a barbecue cover and bungee cord. They also are available in different sizes. Have not tried it myself I have a tonneau and factory tailgate.
