Camping suggestions for NC coast

Hi Everyone,

We are going to try to squeeze in a long weekend trip to the NC coast, Wilimington area (but other suggestions are welcome).
Looking for some suggestions on good campgrounds near or on the ocean.

Thanks,
Mike

You probably already know the top two for the outer banks are camp hatteras and the koa in rodanthe. The Kia in Wilmington has decent review on campgroundreviews.com. You can also check out campgroundgallery.com for some ideas. It was started by a former forum member that lives in NC.

This may be to far from Wilmington for you, but we just got back from James Island campground, outside of charleston. LOVED IT. Every site has shade and privacy, well almost every site. 15min drive to folly beach. They give you free parking at folly beach park. Check it out online if your interested. Tons of things to do in the park for kids. MILES of paved walking/biking trails, fishing/crabbing, fresh and brackish, HUGE climbing wall, water park, spray ground, best playground I've seen at a county campground. We were looking in NC but I don't care for crowds and I like my shade and couldn't find in NC to accommodate my qwerks.

Tre -- great idea. We love Charleston. A bit of a longer drive for us, but still something we can do. Thanks! I'm going to look up that place tomorrow.

White oak shores near Emerald Isle, NC is a great campground and is fairly new. We had our keystone hornet set up there permanently, but their overnight sights are great. It is a short drive from the beach, but is right on the White Oak River.

Can you reserve sites or is it FCFS (First Come First Serve)?

I took our camper to NC a few years ago as I am a retired Marine and stayed at onslow beach at Camp Jejeune and was only $18.00 a night with full hook up. On the way back we stopped at Lake Stephens which is 9 miles west of Beckley WV and they had full hook up also and we was feeding the deer by hand their and it has drive through camp sites with concrete patios and it was really a beautiful campground and alot to do around it also. We are going to go back their. They have a web site.
