Bad smell with furnace

Quick question.
When we turn on the furnace in our 2014 ST32BH we get a bad plastic burning smell and the smoke detector goes off. No smoke. Thankfully for the fireplace and electric blankets. Any idea what this can be. We are bringing it in next month to tighten up a few minor warranty issues and I like to be educated. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar smell and alarm issue the first and only time I've turned ours on. I believe it's just the newness of the unit and it burning off residual manufacturing dust and chemicals. At least I hope that's what it is.

I found all of my heating ducts full of trash. It appears when they were building the trailer they just sweep all of the trash into the heating ducts.

Removed duct registers and a long vacuum hose and cleaned them. Stopped most of the smell I was getting when furnace was running.

This was on a 2011 Cruiser.

Pretty common. Open your windows and run the furnace for 1/2 an hour. Some of the metals in your furnace were coated with an oil film from the Mfg to protect it during shipment.

Yep mine did the same. I pulled the battery out of the smoke alarm and let it run. It would seem like crossroads should test this before shipping it and burn the oils and paint off.

Bert we had the exact same issue with ours. And like others we took the battery out of the smoke alarm and ran the heat for maybe an hour with the vents, doors, and windows open. No problem since then. Just burning off the "dust".

Did you open the outside service panel to the furnace? Another owner of Jefferson found a plastic bag stuck in his furnace. We have been fulltime in ours over a year now. Still getting saw dust in the heating ducts.

Well that comforting to hear from all of you. We've turned it on a few times but shut it down right away. I'll let the dealer fuss with it when I bring it for warranty work. Thanks
