Replace Microwave with Convection Microwave

Hello...has anyone changed out their over-the-stove microwave with a convection microwave? I purchased one at Camping World and when I got it home and read the installation guide, it says it requires 4 inches of open space in the cabinet over the microwave. I only have 2 inches above and am wondering if that would be enough. I haven't been able to find another convection microwave that would fit any better.

Would appreciate any thoughts or expertise on this topic.

Hi lburas,

I've not installed one in an RV, but have in our home. As you could imagine, a lot of heat builds up over the unit from the convection. If it says 4 inches, it's every bit of 4 inches. My only suggestion is contact the manufacturer or the dealer to see if there is alternative venting you can install.

Bottom line, these units get hot, even on a 110v line.

I don't know a lot about it, but have read you need to have the extra clearance or be vented outside do to the heat build up.

Also, you need to check on the draw. That line to the microwave may not be rated for the amp/watt draw of a convection oven.

You could always get a table top convection oven. We have one and it works great. They do get very hot.
