Does any know why the a/c ductwork goes at least 3 feet past the last vent?? Should this be blocked off? This is on my '13 Patriot 335ss

Just guessing they use standard duct lengths. Some who were having cooling issues (not sufficient air flow) have blocked it off. There is a thread here I took a quick look but did not find it.

I just stuffed the end of the last vent with some foil insulation.

Mark, we had the same issue when we bought our unit. Both our AC units are ducted and we were not getting good air flow from the bedroom unit. I was able to remove the vent closest to the front of the trailer and shine a flashlight with a mirror and I could see the end of the duct had nothing blocking the end. The AC unit was blowing cold air into the attic space. I got some expanding foam and sealed it off just past the last vent and and our air flow doubled.

My guess is that if they use a standard length, they can use the same duct regardless of floor plan and then drill the correct locations for the vents. They can also change locations easily. For your second question, as long as there are no leaks in the extended duct, then it shouldn't matter since it is just dead air space. However it certainly won't hurt to block off the un-used duct and since air leaks are a high probability, it might help a little. I used 3/4 inch rigid foam and caulk on my '04 Cruiser, have not done the same thing yet on the '11 Cruiser.

I'll have to look at ours - seem to be getting the proper air flow for a single AC installation.
