Water heater light

We've had our Rushmore over two years. The red light that I assume is supposed to indicate water heater is on propane has never worked. I pulled that panel a few days ago to check another electrical issue. I was surprised to see the light not jumpered to the propane switch, but instead the hot wire for the light goes in the bundle from the distribution panel. I was rushed, and didn't have time to really check it out, but intend to later. Anyone else had this issue? No biggie, as the panel is in the coat closet anyway, but I just don't like stuff that doesn't work!

Hi Will,
The red light you are referring to, only comes on when the propane will not light. If the light is off, everything is ok.

I agree with Bud.

My SWITCH lights when on gas, and the tiny LED next to it will light if there is a problem (I.E. no gas). If you want to test, turn on gas switch with bottles off - light should come on after WH tries 3X to light.

Is this different from other models? My red light is lit when it is on. If using electric and gas then both red lights are steady on?

Was gonna post picture....but can't figure it out on my phone. We only have one light on our panel, between the electric & gas switch.

We were under the same assumption, but ours doesn't light either. I have never seen this light work.

We have 1 light between the electric and gas switches; it only comes on if the propAne fails to light - and it works on a regular basis

We normally run on electric. Shower time, I flip the propane on.....never had it to fail to light. Suppose I need to knock on wood now!
