Tires for CF-305-SKP?
I had a blowout of the front drivers side tire this fall. Fortunately the other axle kept the rim from contacting the pavement as we drove several miles before a guy motioned us over. We then drove another 4 miles to a rest stop, with the 4 ways running, so we didn't have to deal with the problem on the freeway.
I'm in the market for new tires and would like to hear from other people about brands that they have had good luck with, also the recommended ratings for the tires?
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Never had a blow out - trailer or motor home - one of the lucky ones.
I heard good reviews on Maxxis tires so I stuck with ST (trailer tires). I just installed 4 Maxxis tires (Maxxis M8008) - $150.00/tire and $80.00 to have them mounted and balanced.
I took the wheels/tires off and had a local shop mount and balance them.
My first trip will be in May with them.

I changed to LT tires. Many folks have gone to LT tires. You have asked a question that will get many replies and or opinions. Tires are discussed on all the RV forums and everyone has their experience to report. Buy a quality brand name tire preferably made in the USA wheather you choose ST or LT.
Sounds like you were lucky and did not have a lot of body damage.

We also had a blow out this past fall. We went to a tire store on the road and they only had Towmax tires in stock so I bought 2 of them since that's what they had in stock. Like others have said if you do a tire search on RV sites you will get a million posts with all kinds of advice. I have heard bad things about towmax tires, but I do notice that brand on a lot of the new 5vers. My buddy had a 2014 42ft toy hauler and it came with towmax and he had a blow out after about a year of use. I have been looking at 2015 Jayco Eagle's and it has towmax tires. I would think if they were horrible tires all these manufactures wouldn't be putting them on their rigs.
I think all tires will have problems and I'm sure some are better then others, but I feel the most important thing is you have the right tire for the weight of your camper and you keep it properly inflated, and you change them out every 4 or 5 years. I'm no tire specialist just my opinion. Good luck on your decision.

Chris unfortunatly is is one way they cut costs buying large volume of low cost tires. I agree that inspection and proper inflation is a key factor in tire life.

Also speed. At the factory rally we were told that max speed for the tires the Cruisers are shipped with is 62 MPH...

Tommy, I believe most ST tires are max 65MPH. Lt tires E rated are 110MPH. I dont advocate fast travel speeds but a max of 62MPH is not a confidence builder.

Al
The Lipert rep was asked at the factory rally what is the max speed for the tires that Lipert supplies on the frames for CR and unless I heard wrong he said 62 MPH. Maybe some one else that attended the rally this past July can confirm that statement....

I believe that is stamped on the sidewall of the tires.

what he said...
have had blowouts on three different brands of ST tires...
even the goodyear marathons I 'upgraded' to...
(Will say this about goodyear though, they paid for everything, including rv damage, when I sent them pics and handed the tire carcass off to one of their stores)
st tires don't like heat, speed, or age
Our current rv has lt tires and the wheels to handle the psi...
ANY future rv will as well !

I was at a fuel station filling up this week when a fellow from OK pulled in next to me with a 3500 Ram Dually. We were conversing and he said he made it to the campground here in x hours. I asked how he did that, and he said "well, not much wind so I cruised at 75 all the way." I told him I never go over 60 and he asked why I go so slow. I told him the tires are rated for 65 mph and I don't believe in pushing it. He looked at me like I was an alien or something. I have always checked my tires every time I stop while traveling, and they have never been more than warm to the touch. I will continue to travel at 60 or less, and hope that you never see my name here asking for a tire brand recommendation. Although I will be approaching 2 years old on my tires by the end of next year and near to 20,000 miles, so I may not wait the 4-5 years most do. I will have to wait and see.
Travel well, travel safe,
Jim

Gary, as you know I have the same trailer as you, and I too had a blow out. Driver side front, not twenty mins after checking tire pressure and inflating to 80 PSI. In order to not run without a spare I had to buy what the tire shop had on hand. Next tires (set of 4) are going to be BF Goodrich Commercial LT's. Please don't just take my word check them out for yourself and see if they are right for you. I don't believe they have the exact same size they may be a little wider foot print. Yes they are a more expensive tire than the ST but are held to a little higher standard as all LT's are compared to the ST's.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. I think I'm going with LT tires. From all the comments here and the research I've done they seem to be a better built tire. The only drawback I found was the added rolling resistance, but not having to worry about going over 65 on occasion AND having a better built tire far outweighs the rolling resistance.

I'm a little late to this discussion but after we had a blow out I researched a lot of tires and ended up buying the Goodyear G614 RSTŪ.
Pricy but they have a very good warranty and good reviews with the exception of a couple of years back in the mid- 2000's.
Buy what make you "warm and fuzzy".

BipeFlier, I have also gone with G614 after blowing 15 month old recommended st. I had looked at tires 15 minuets prior while at the dump and they were fine. What air pressure are you running in them? I plan on keeping them as we have been looking at new 5'er.
