Although we did find a variety in the quality, etc. of the KOAs, they do keep to a certain standard, and most of them were good. With a membership we saved 10%, and got enough points for $50 worth of camping plus free membership for the next year.

I got interrupted while posting about KOAs.

The problem with non-KOAs is that the quality varies a lot more. One campground we stayed at on the way home, a non-KOA, was absolutely the worst place we ever stayed. The water only worked for a few minutes around supper time; the rest of the time there was no water. Since the drain had fallen out of our fresh water tank a couple of weeks before, we had NO WATER AT ALL.

They were working on the problem, but never did get it fixed while we were there. On top of that the staff was not friendly and the nearby busy rail crossing didn't help our mood either. There was no offers of refunds and they only accepted cash payments.

Another non-KOA along our route ended up being closed when we got there (Out of Business sign on door). So we thought the KOAs were a pretty good deal all around.

Your pictures are beautiful! We, too took a trip through New Mexico and Colorado. In New Mexico we stopped in Santa Fe and Clines Corners. In Colorado we stopped in Durango, Lake City, Creede, Telluride (rode the Gondola), Canon City (rode the Royal Gorge train), Colorado Springs, and then home. I'm sure there's a couple of places I'm missing, but it was a great trip. We might have to take another one soon and go through Arizona and Utah. Now that we have a camper, traveling should be a lot more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome. If you go to albums at the top of the page, I posted more pictures there.

One place particularly memorable was Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona. Just don't go there on a rainy day as you cannot go into the canyon when it rains, it is too dangerous.
