My 2011 Sunset Trail ST27BH did not come with a roof-access ladder on the rear. Is this an option that can be installed after-market? Has anyone done this? I see plenty of ladders available on various RV part sites, but I'm not sure if these are intended as replacements, or if they can be installed on a non-ladder equipped trailer.

I guess my question is: is there solid framing behind the rear end fiberglass to which I could attach a ladder? Does anyone have any schematics or details of the frame construction so that I could locate the frame components? I've tried a stud detector on the inside to install extra hooks, but it doesn't seem to detect very well through RV walls.

I would give Crossroads customer service a call and they should be able to answer all your questions. Plus if the ladder is an option they probably have one they will sell you that is the right fit and can tell you about any bracing and how to install it.

I have a new Sunset Tail 26BH and would be interested in the ladder install also. Please let us know if you get any good information about installing one.

Thanks!

I sent an email to CrossRoads customer service. As soon as I have feedback I'll post the result.

Has anyone added a ladder to their 2011/2012 Sunset Trail trailer? We just picked ours up and wondered about it not having a ladder. Wondering if the poster ever got one from Crossroads or added one himself?

Hi all,

I sent a few emails to the few email addresses I could find on the web site, but never had a response... I have to say that in terms of After Sales Customer Service, I've seen a lot better... And from reading other threads, it looks like it's generalized throughout CrossRoads. My dealer says "no, you can't add a ladder", and won't even try to contact CrossRoads. As far as he's concerned, he's done with me, unless he can sell parts "at zero risk".

So, I don't have a ladder... I'll be looking for a 8' step ladder to get up on the roof at home.

I special-ordered my trailer back in 12/07 and asked the dealer to add a ladder. He later told me that he contacted Crossroads for their blessing and was told the trailer wouldn't support a ladderand if added would, you guessed it, "void the warranty". I now carry a telescoping 12' ladder which works great for getting on the roof when on the road or at home and for lots of projects around the house. Thanks for that motivation, Frank!

I also bought a telescoping 12` ladder, this is your best options, it`s compact plus you can use it to clean your slide out, and for many other uses around your trailer. Also it`s great if you want to hang up hammocks or swings from trees...

We ordered a ladder, but CR forgot to install it. You can have any dealer do it, but they will need to make sure backing is in the wall to support the ladder. Depending on model (I.E. smooth fiberglass siding), they (or you) may need to check with CR to find out if backing is in the wall. Otherwise, it is straight forward to install a ladder (even a universal one).

Anyone ordering a new unit - GET THE LADDER. It is invaluable...I do not have to take anything to periodically inspect or clean roof. Best $125 I spent! And you can hang towels to dry...

ewbldavis, I am guessing you installed your ladder on your Zinger? I am thinking perhaps the framing inside the fiberglass wall is different on the Sunsets vs the Zinger.
I am real curious as well to find out from CR or a Sunset owner if they have installed one. Hauling around a ladder sucks. And the telescoping ladders are heavy and very expensive at least the ones I have seen. I have the 26BH 2013 and find it brutal to get up on the slide out to clean it off the ladder addition would be the best option.

Dealer did it, but in our driveway. Ours is wood frame/aluminum. He drilled a small hole I think to make sure backing was in wall. I would contact Crossroads (Randy maybe) and see if they can tell you if the wall is setup for ladder. I bet they all are and you can probably order a ladder from CR and install it.

We recently purchased our 2013 Cruiser Air Lte 28 LB and it too did not come with a ladder. When we realized this we spoke with the dealer and also contacted Crossroads directly. Bottom line we were told that they were NOT designed for a ladder. After market installation is NOT an option.

After being similarly told I couldn't add a ladder to my ST when new, I bought a telescoping ladder from overstock.com which rides in the bed of the truck. One of the best purchases I've made for not only RVing but around the house.
