Campgrounds In North Carolina and South?

We are looking for suggestions for campgrounds in the Carolina's along the coast. Looking on the internet is so overwhelming and I am looking for some suggestions. We are planning on dragging the trailer south in August. Thanks in advance!!

It depends on what you are looking for. Do you want amenities or dry camping? Kids activities vs quiet? Beachfront, shore, inland, lake etc. On nc banks, there is not a lot of CG with amenities. Lots of state parks with no amenities but just behind a sand dune to the beach. Nc state parks close and lock their gates at dusk, you are stuck in or out, no exceptions. There are two beach campgrounds with full hook ups in rodanthe nc. Camp hatteras and the Koa in Rodanthe. Both are very popular and camp hatteras is a coast to coast member if you are a member. We have been wanting to try camp hatteras for awhile now. More inland (not near the shore) is http://www.taborcityjellystone.com/index.php which is a yogi bear campground with water park. Again pretty popular.

In myrtle beach you have 3 big beach campgrounds that are all very Pirateland (we stayed at and really liked), ocean lakes, myrtle Beach state park. These 3 are all right up the street from each other and have varying things to do. There are a lot of cg in sc but I can't think of them right now. www.campgroundgallery.com may help you. It is a website made by a member here that contains reviews and pictures of campgrounds. There is also www.campgroundreviews.com. Hope this helps some.

We have friends that highly recommend OBX Campground located in Kill Devil Hills. www.obxcampground.com/‎ We are planning a trip down there in the Spring.

In all fairness, the Cape Hatteras KOA in Rodanthe is pretty nice but the biggest problem is that there are so many issues with the Bonner Bridge and the washouts on NC12 that take you there.

Additionally, there are some great campgrounds outside of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Good luck and welcome to the South. We are an extremely hospitable bunch.

Don't forget Huntington Beach State Park. Quite and close to very uncongested beach's. Close to Myrtle Beach without being too busy.

If you want to go up in the mountains, there is a really nice camp group near Boone. It's called HoneyBear. Also, near Ashville, the KOA east is excellent. I know you asked for Coastal campgrounds but thought this might be useful in the future.

There is a KOA in downtown Myrtle Beach that is 3 blocks from the beach. Apache Campground is oceanfront in North Myrtle Beach along with a few others.

Oak Plantation Campground is south of Charleston on Hwy 17. Our Grand Strand Sams stayed there once. Good grassy sites, open meeting place, good store. The only problem was flying bugs but that's only in season. It's is in what we call the low country, the ocean is 3 or 4 miles away but only 5 ft down.

In nc no-see-ums are annoying and are out all camping season... no-see-ums are worse than gnats. There are also biting flies in the summer.

I'm looking pretty hard at PirateLand. Looks pretty fun and has beach front access. Does anyone have any pros and cons? Would you rent a golf cart?

We are looking at Pirate land the last week in September. Hoping it's still warm.
