New ST270BH Owners

We are soon to be new owners to a 2014 Sunset ST270BH. We researched many floor plans and this was the one trailer that we could both agree on based on our individual want lists. We made the 3 hour drive to the RV show to see it in person and confirmed we made the right choice. We haven't set a pick up date yet but we are very excited.

Our family loves to camp. We had a pop-up trailer for 3 years but sold it when we sold our tow vehicle. So we went back to tent camping the past 2 seasons. We just got our truck in December and were ready for a trailer. It will extend our ability to camp in spring and fall since we live in a cooler climate.

I already have a list of mods planned and am always looking for new ideas since I like to tinker

Hi Amanda, and welcome to the forum. Like you, we just purchased the same ST270BH, have it storage at our dealer, and are awaiting our new truck to arrive to go get it. We did the same thing and visited the RV show in Cleveland to see the model (among others) but ultimately the floor plan and deal we got on the 270BH made the decision for us.

We came from a pop up for the past 4 years and we have sold that particular tow vehicle too. Seems like this floor plan is very popular, already met another gentleman on here who is getting the same too. Since we are all new to this unit and we may all have different experiences, we should keep in touch as time goes on to share our experiences.

Have you decided on a hitch set up yet? I haven't 100% decided but really leaning toward the Equalizer. Let me know and Congrats to you and family on the new purchase.

That is great. We have a similar story with camping. Love our trailer.

It's a great trailer for the size and options available. I can see why so many of us are buying one

I haven't done any hitch research yet. The dealer offered us a free Equalizer hitch so we'll probably go with that if it's a good match our truck. We're also having a Fantastic fan installed and upgrading to 2 6 volt batteries. We wanted to get 2 30lb tanks as well but it seemed like it would be a hassle.

We wished Ohio was closer to us. We saw some great prices advertised from Ohio dealers. We definitely pay more in Canada for RV's but the current exchange rate make it less worth while to cross border shop.

That's a good hitch and the one I'm seriously leaning toward. Don't think you'll go wrong there. Nice upgrades on the unit you are adding. I considered the 30# tanks too but did not want to add any additional tongue weight plus in a pinch I can go to any local store and do a 20# cylinder exchange with the standard tanks.

We did get a good deal, the show served its purpose. I just noticed that your kids are same age as mine. I'm sure they are just as excited as ours. Have Fun!

Hi Amanda and John,
I'm getting the same trailer. Picking it up in a few weeks. My kids are 9 and 6, they love the bunk beds. Have fun with it!

One of my first mods is going to be individual curtains for the bunks beds. Then there won't be any fighting when one wants the curtain open and the other doesn't. My daughter was excited about the little shelf in the bunks. Sometimes it's the simple things .

Funny, my daughter is also very excited about the shelf. She's 6. Curtains are a good idea.

Amanda, that's a really good idea. Any thoughts on how to do that? I would think cutting down the curtain and hemming a seam would be easy (not for me); but how would a bottom rod attach? Tension or you planning on screwing a rod in place? Send pics when you do that please. My wife likes your idea.

Funny how little girls get excited about the little things, my daughter (7) got excited about the shelf too.

I won't have a plan as to how until I have my trailer but we don't have a set date yet. I am thinking of making 2 new curtains and leaving the existing one as is. I'll definitely post pictures when I figure it out.
