Tim,
Brought her home with a friend who has a 39' and he drove the first 20 miles to see how she handled and his comment was..."I don't even know it's back there." Thanks to Randy and Kelly who set up the Equal-I-Zer for us so well...I took over about 35 miles from home and on the flats she ran 1,800 rpm at 62 and goign up hills she would rev to about 2,300, which is not bad at all so I'm impressed so far...now mountains will be another thing...but having the Tow Haul feature sure does help...I parked it in my driveway and beginner's luck hit it perfectly the first time...but, my driveway is too slanted and there would be too much pressure on the neck...my next door neighbor whose driveway is twice as long let me put her there for now...tomorrow we start "equipping" her and Sunday we'll do some practice parking and backing at the local Home Depot...then next weekend we'll take her to a local county park for a weekend break-in to see how everything works...from there...who knows... BTW my wife and I lived in Springdale, AR for 2 years from 1995 to 1996...I worked for the A&M Railroad there as Controller...moved back to WI after that and been here since Looking forward to meeting you at the July rally if you and the DW will be attending that one

Sweet looking rigg Jim it sounds like you really lucked out with your hitch set up because I've had to adj. ours 2 times so far and I'm still tinkering around trying for the [ PERFECT ] tow LOL . i did the same thing with the last TT and got it rite and it really did great on our trip over the mountains going to San Francisco last summer I just put her in tow-haul and let her eat up the road and for most part I neverused the brake pedal . Now I gained about 800 lbs. and 3 feet with the Cruiser so it's a hole new ball game and that extra weight will show up in handling and we even thought of removing either the sleeper couch or one of the recliners to cut down on it .
I'm not sure about the July meet because we have so much going on at the house with a lot of remodeling and updates we just replaced the chimney brick with cultured stone and are waiting on the steel roof and a new storm / tornado safe room to be installed in the garage hopefully before one comes our way LOL
Tim Ps are you coming to Kerryville this Apr. ?

Tim,
My wife cannot get the time off for that trip...I would have loved to but don't want to come alone...she has a year to retirement yet. She has reverse shoulder replacement scheduled for June 12th and she'll be off 2 months...during that time we're heading back to NY for a family wedding on July 10th and to see family and grandchildren there. We are originally from upstate NY, me from Albany and Linda from Stuyvesant Falls, moving to WI in 1980. We will be making trips to visit old friends back in AR at some point, and maybe even in late June if all works out. If we do I will let you know where we'll be

Gossamar,
Great Idea.
Finding 9/16-18 nuts was like an Easter egg hunt!!
When I did find a store that stocked this size, I ended up with 3 different styles.
I should have ordered from McMaster Carr.

Kamper Dave,
I'm new, but I'm learning...as far as the "Grade 8" nuts go you said you had a hard time finding them...where did you find them and are you doubling up on them also when you put them on?
thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim,
I am no expert. Neither DW nor I had camped for over 30
years so in 2008 we both went crazy and purchased our first 5th
Wheel. I figure it was something that we ingested in the 1970’s. LOL
The suspension bolts in question already have the proper nut
and lock washers in place. I insured that the existing nuts were torqued down properly.
I wanted to add one jam nut on top of the existing nut to insure that the nut can
never back up on the threads. Here is a link from Portland on jam nuts. http://www.portlandbolt.com/products..._jam_nuts.html I
was not concerned about the hardness of the jam nut. Its only job in life is to
lock the working nut in place on the bolt threads. I am sure that there is ASTM
Specification to deal with this subject. I grew up on the farm where when you
double nut something the nut just was not going to loosen. WARNING: The bolt
may stretch. Jam nuting does not mean that you should never check the tightness
ever again.
9/16-18 must be on odd size in this area of the planet.
I ended up at Menards Lumber where they had 3 jam nuts, 10
finished nuts and a few standard nuts and plenty of stainless steel nuts at
$3.20 each all were 9/16-18. There is 1.25 of exposed thread above the
existing nut that is plenty of room for a nut of any hardness being employed as
a jam nut.
If I had to do it all over again I would place an order with
http://www.mcmaster.com/#hex-jam-nuts/=gyorbq They stock jam nuts in several harnesses.
I sure hope this helps. Good luck.
Kamper Dave

After reading this post and checking the bolts this morning, I found that two of the shackle bolts were a little loose and had to be turned almost a full turn to be torqued to 50lbs. However, on my U-Bolts; Half of them were loose and are now torqued to 70lbs. Thanks Boomer for the post. I'm shure somewhere it had been posted before. Thats why sometimes new repeated post are good. I feel relieved after checking them Thanks again.

If everything is tightened up to where it should be-----and the locking nuts/or lock washers are in good shape, I can't see the need for double nutting. What I hate about the double nutting is how it can stretch the threads. Things shouldn't loosen up if your locking washers or lock nuts are in good shape. Now that means "not" reusing the lock nuts, but putting new lock nuts on if you have to take them off. The only way things can come loose other wise is if the bolts are stretching. Which is highly unlikely seeing as they are all hardened stock. Just torque to the given specs. Another alternative would be the use of loctite. A small drop of the blue stuff is all that's needed, and you will still be able to get it apart.
That's my opinion for what ever it's worth.

Okay, you have convinced me to retorque my suspension. Where do I find the torque values on my 2011 Cruiser CTX 26RKX ?

I assume that you have Libert axles etc. The link to all of liberts manuals is at the start of this thread, I think I posted it about 3 messages into the thread.

Boomer's update: I started this thread as a result of preparing for a trip from Ottawa Canada to Orlando Florida. My Wife and i have just spent a beautiful month in Florida and are leaving for the 3 day trip back to Ottawa to day.
Yesterday I re- checked all Lug nuts, Spring shackle nuts and Spring U-Bolts, I am glad to say that after 2400 KM ( 1500 Miles) all bolts had maintained their tightness and were still torqued correctly.

Thanks a bunch Boomer!!!
I just retorqued all of my suspension and found 4 shackle bolts way under torqued and all my axle U bolts were loose by about 20ft/lbs or more.

Checked all mine this weekend for the trip to the rally and all u-bolts and shackles bolt were within torque specs. Glad to find that out. I would never have thought to check them until I saw this thread. Just always assumed they were tight.

Were headed out for a our first trip tomorrow (just 25 miles) but I'm glad I checked. I have been wanting to pull my wheels to re grease my bearings the last couple weeks and was planning to check all bolts then. Time wasn't on my side but I did a bit of a pre-trip inspection today and checked those bolts. All u bolts were about 1 full turn too loose and one shackle was loose.
Glad I checked!! Good tip. going to check them periodically this summer.
