From the Fan-tastic vent website....

“..when moisture contacts built-in rain sensor the dome will

close and turn fan blade </span>off, when

sensor dries , dome reopens and fan blade turns on.?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Just a note of maintenance I wipe the sensor off and lube the spring loaded switch for the fan. If dust or dirt covers the sensor the dome will not open. I also had the problem of the fan not turning on and found a little rust keeping switch compressed not turning on the fan. A little oil and it works like new
