AC shroud screening?

Just noticed the the shrouds covering our AC units have some pretty good sized opening in them which makes them a perfect location of wasps and other flying thingies to build a nest. We already have a few bees and wasps flying around here in South Texas as the weather has been very warm.

Has anyone installed some sort of screening material inside the shrouds to prevent this and, if so, could you give us details of what you used and how you used it?

I haven't done anything to the a/c shrouds, however, I have covered the backs of the refrigerator vents. I just purchased a roll of screen wire from Home Depot, cut it to the size of the vent and attached it with hot glue. Also did the cover to the water heater exhaust this way. Actually, I never thought about the a/c shrouds. That may be a spring project.

I read an article on screening in the refrigerator vent and they said not to as it restricts air flow causing overheating. You may want to look into that

I screened my refer vents. No issues..we full time. Hot glue and bug screen from Ace Hardware. Not sure about the A/C unit. Wind might blow it loose and into the fan unit.
